Bibliography[edit]

  • Plutarch. Plutarch's Lives. with an English Translation by. Bernadotte Perrin. Cambridge, MA. Harvard University Press. London. William Heinemann Ltd. 1914. 2.[1]
    • Primary source, Every mention of Elpinice within this text via the Perseus archive. Cimon focused.
  • Plutarch, The Parallel Lives/Life of Pericles Vol. III, Loeb Classical Library edition, 1916. Open Source. Digital. [2]
    • Primary source, plutarch describing Elpinice's influence on Pericles.
  • Howaston, M.C. The Oxford Companion to Classical Literature (3rd ed), Oxford University Press, 2011. Digital.[3]
    • This page is a good secondary reference resource as it has the listings for whenever Elpinice is mentioned, and where she is mentioned.
  • Tanner, Rollin H. “Callias ὁ Λακκόπλουτος, the Husband of Elpinice.” Classical Philology, vol. 18, no. 2, 1923, pp. 144–51. JSTOR, http://www.jstor.org/stable/262556. Accessed 2 May 2023.[4]
    • Secondary source, article about elpinice that seems to have some good information regarding her status in society, states that shes an intersting person in history, so i am excited to read.
  •   Nevin, Sonya. The Idea of Marathon : Battle and Culture. London ;: Bloomsbury Academic, 2022. Print.
    • This is a book published by Bloomsbury Academic, so it should be a reliable secondary source that discusses Militiades family, from the article that I read. Unsure how much of the book relates to Militiades, but it looks like there will at least be mentions. As it was published in 2022, there will hopefully be information that has not yet been added to the Elpinice page.
  • Athenaeus. The Deipnosophists. Or Banquet Of The Learned Of Athenaeus. London. Henry G. Bohn, York Street, Covent Garden. 1854.[5]
    • This is an excerpt from Athenaeus' "Deipnosophits" which mentions Elpinice in regards to her familial connections. Hopefully a good primary source for adjusting/editing what is said about Elpinice
