Cedarhurst[edit]

Kindly do not label Cedarhurst as an Orthodox Jewish community. It is NOT one. There are many other groups that make up the village. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Helical Rift (talkcontribs) .

I agree with you that the Orthodox Jews play a big role in the Cedarhurst community, but I do not think it is fair to label it as such considering the large percentage of other ethnic and religious groups. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Helical Rift (talkcontribs) .

Also, could you let me know where you found that 60% of Cedarhurst is Orthodox? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Helical Rift (talkcontribs)

I don't know that much about Cedarhurst except what I've read on Wikipedia and your talk page messages. Your comment on Alansohn's talk page indicated that about 40% of the community is not Orthodox. I found that 60% of the community is Orthodox by reading your comment and subtracting 40 from 100. -FisherQueen 18:19, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice. I haven't really played much with Wiki to learn all the little nuances yet. In regards to your substraction, 60% is not Orthodox. That 60% are people that are not either Italian, Irish, Hispanic, black or what not. The rest may be Jewish but not necessarily Orthodox which is the point I was making. I hope you see where I'm coming from. Honestly, it seems that Alansohn has caused alot of problems by looking at his history page —Preceding unsigned comment added by Helical Rift (talkcontribs)

Here is something I found interesting:

To be sure, Orthodox Jews do not make up a majority of the population in Cedarhurst, but their numbers have been increasing in the last decade or so. According to real estate agents, many of the newcomers are young, and they have been attracted to the village because homes in the municipality are more affordable than in many other parts of the Five Towns, which also includes Lawrence, Inwood, Hewlett and Woodmere. (http://www.ade-re.com/1959/rodeo/drive.htm)

This is from the same article that Alansohn cites. So if the Orthodox Jews are not the majority, then why label Cedarhurst as an Orthodox Jewish community???? Helical Rift 19:50, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Mass Movement of the Moth[edit]

The page under consideration (Mass Movement of the Moth) wasn't created by me. Another user had created it and I was correcting what was wrong. I realized at one time it did express opinions which was incorrect, but after your first comment I did in fact revert it back to fact. This is the second or third time a page has been created for Mass Movement of the Moth and then deleted, but I have never been the originator. I'd like you to review your choice to delete the page, but please remember that I removed the speedy tag because their has been interest in the topic and I was not the creator. Thank you Amplific 17:29, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

You asked me to review my choice to delete Mass Movement of the Moth. I'm not an administrator, so I don't have the power to delete or restore pages- if I was wrong and this group does meet Wikipedia's notability requirements, you'll need to make your argument for its restoration to an administrator, who can undelete it. -FisherQueen 12:26, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Last Chance warnings[edit]

I noticed your duel with spammer User:Davidjohnbarnes (who seems to have stopped for now). In case you're unaware of it, the way to turn a Last Chance warning into an actual block is to post a short note on WP:AIV. It doesn't always produce an immediate block (some admins who work that page are way more tolerant than I would be), but it generally nails the worst offenders. Cheers! -- Mwanner | Talk 14:47, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

This is David John Barnes. I find your post about me inaccurate and very aggressive.
I am not a 'spammer'. I run an award-winning website www.retrosellers.com which has a great deal of valuable content and I am spending my Sunday trying to get relevant articles listed in appropriate areas of the Wikipedia enyclopdia.
The rules for a newcomer are impossible to understand and the idea that I am involved in a 'duel' is outrageous. I wasn't aware that I was getting warnings because I didn't get any emails through telling me there was a problem.
Why my articles are not relevant to you I do not know. They are very specific to the pages I have tried to associate them to. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidjohnbarnes (talkcontribs)
I'm not sure where to answer you-- if you have failed to notice the large "You have new messages" banner that appears every time someone posts a message on your Talk page, but you spotted my post to FisherQueen, I guess I'll try here. Please read Wikipedia's External links policy, as well as WP:Spam#How not to be a spammer. If you still have questions, leave a message on my Talk page. Cheers! -- Mwanner | Talk 15:06, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Am I able to link an article about Christine Keeler to the Chrstine Keeler page on Wikepedia?

Am I able to link an article about Janet Leigh to the Janet Leigh page on Wikepedia?

Am I able to link an article about Pete Best to the Pete Best page on Wikepedia?

They are all on www.retrosellers.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidjohnbarnes (talkcontribs)

About Sportsvite article[edit]

It seems like you somehow contributed to this article. There is a message on my talk page from you about the entry being recreated. I'm new to wikipedia but can you help me undertsand what is going on. Thanks. --Sportslit 05:46, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your clarification. I'm very interested in learning more about editing wikipedia and how to create entries that comply with wikipedia standards -- for sportsvite as well as other entries within the sports universe. I'm still a bit confused with this whole process though. Is there a way to discuss with an editor what constitutes a good article and how i can improve my articles? Thanks. --Sportslit 15:06, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

The way I started on Wikipedia was through the Community Portal - click on it on the left toolbar. There are lists of articles that need improving, and it's a great way to learn about what makes a good article. There are articles that need grammar and spelling help, or need links to other articles, or need to be added to categories, and instructions on how to do it. Feel free to ask me questions, and don't let yourself get too upset if other editors don't agree with what you do- things can get heated here sometimes, but we're all working together to build the encyclopedia. -FisherQueen 18:48, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Links correspondence - I am not spamming[edit]

Hello Marc,

I have encountered Wikipedia in many of my searches. Whilst it is great for a quick reference to a topic, often I want to delve deeper.

Two of my articles have already been added as links to your site by other people, I was surprised and pleased to learn in my searches yesterday (but which also made me wonder why there was so much of a problem/issue in me adding more.)

When I decided to add links to my content within Wikipedia, it was on the basis that my website contains a lot of unique articles, many of them interviews, with people who are entries in your encyclopaedia. These could not be inserted into your pages in the traditional way as they were complete interviews.

As a novice there, I didn't know that you had 1001 rules and regulations which might exclude me from doing this. I also didn't know that your editors were talking about me as a spammer on my 'talk' page because I wasn't familiar with the mechanics of your difficult-to-fathom site.

The BBC and IMDB have both linked to my site on the basis that they see it adding value. In the case of the IMDB, they also created a special bit of code for my site so that a specific page could be seen within the opening frameset of my framed site rather than as an independent page. I was thus very impressed and encourage by the positive attitude of the people at IMDB.

If I cannot add my own articles as links, then is there a mechanism to recommend them as links?

You say perhaps I should consider?......... Perhaps I have already done so? I come from a systems background originally. I can see the problems you face with vandals and spammers and just people making errors and mistakes. I would say that's the price you pay for deciding to not take off-line submissions and have people reviewing them.

But the fact is, within half an hour of me coming into Wikipedia with enthusiasm and energy and keen to add extra value by including my links, I was descended upon by editors who were removing my work and calling me a spammer almost immediately. That wasn't a good introduction to Wikipedia, was it? And my point here is, rather than discourage links you should be encouraging relevant and quality links and putting a bit of your editors' energies into looking at these rather than just discouraging them.

Most of the topics I wanted to link to contain 2 or 3 links at most. Mine would not be excessive. I notice that the links you do include are often not any different from the sort of links I would like to include.

I have been running retrosellers.com now for several years and have spent hundreds of unpaid hours on it. It has cost me a lot of money to get it to where it is today, with server and telephone and travel costs and so on. It has won awards and featured in many papers and Magazines, including UK's Daily Mail and USA's Entertainment Weekly.

The content is unique and well-researched. For the most part, it's written based upon first-hand information and interviews with the people concerned.

Is there not a way we can move this forward?

Best wishes

David Barnes www.retrosellers.com Net savings for silver surfers. The definitive place for retro and nostalgia with numerous star interviews and articles

Actually not an appalling error. If you're tagging it at the same time I Move the page, you don't get an edit conflict, so you end up tagging a user page. Fan-1967 19:29, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm the same way--I kinda like the vandalism. I've unprotected it and will drop a note on the page of the admin who did it. Also, I can't imagine the "We Heart Merope" fanclub has very many members, given my userpage vandalism count.  ;) -- Merope 19:37, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

You commented my Sensei (the band) page...[edit]

And told me to review the Wikipedia Notability policy.

Sensei meets criteria 6 for musicians and ensembles possessing not only one, but TWO members of a once notable and nationally touring band. Inspection 12 released 2 albums on Fat Wreck Chords' subsidery Honest Don's, toured 3 times for the albums, and gained notable recognition. The band's next album "Get Rad" has been released by Takeover Records in the US and internationally distributed by Floppy Cow records. Please see Inspection 12 for full bio.

What must I do to get this deletion notice of my page? I wouldn't suggest using a redirect, considering Inspection 12 is still an active band and fans interested in learning about the band would not always want to be immediately guided to Sensei's article.

Regarding edits made November 25, 2006[edit]

Thank you for fixing that! I'm so sorry, something totally screwed up when I was trying to update. I was trying to figure out how to revert the page, but while I was trying, you fixed it. Thanks.--Supremelegend 13:59, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

User: Billlion (Please Warn Him)[edit]

Hi FisherQueen. User: Billlion keeps altering my edits to 'Devils Coach Horse'. I think it is alright to edit things if it is correct information, but I feel his edits are guesswork and take more HIS side of opinion to be honest and I know that is against Wikipedia policy. Im sure he is doing it delibratly now. Mabye you could check up on it or mabye take it further by possibly issueing him with a short ban. Thanks FisherQueen, JFBurton 21:25, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

The user has already been blocked for disruption. And while FisherQueen is a phenomenal vandal fighter, he/she is not an admin and cannot block someone. In the future, you can report cases like this to the administrators' noticeboard or request administrator intervention against vandalism. (Also, FisherQueen, even though you're one of my favorite people here, it occurs to me I don't know your gender identity! I'm a bad Wikifriend!) -- Merope 21:46, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

No, I have no intention of helping you with your dispute.

  • 1. I'm not an administrator.
  • 2. The above-warned message on Colleenvanessa's talk page doesn't really incline me to help you in any way.

-FisherQueen 21:48, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

That's what I thought![edit]

Okay, cool. I noticed that a lot of your vandalism called you a bitch and a lezzbo, but a lot of my vandalism indicates that I suck dick. Which, as a straight woman, I have been known to do.  ;) Also! If you have any sort of LJ or blog, I'd like to read it, and I'd even let you see mine. (That's right--I'd remove my cloak of secrecy!) It's not, like, real exciting, or anything, but I'd be interested in learning more about you off-wiki. You'd have to e-mail me, since I'm not posting the address here, but I'm e-mail enabled. Cheers. -- Merope 21:57, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

I have emailed you (woo! I never even noticed that link!) with the address for my blog, of deeply dubious thrill value. -FisherQueen 22:07, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
By the way:
  • Yes, the vandals who try to insult you by saying stuff that isn't that insulting are... amusing. I liked the most recent ones, which amounted to, "Go screw your lesbian friends, you butch." Um... okay. That sounds nice. I guess I am a little butch, but only because I wear my hair short and only own one skirt.
  • My favorite vandals are the ones who are a little TOO obsessed with male genitalia and gay sex. I always wonder if they're working out some denial and inner turmoil.
  • I would love the link to your blog. Fair is fair, after all.

-FisherQueen 22:13, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Well the ones who say I suck dick are just throwing out homophobic "insults". It's like, okay, that's hilarious because 1) I'm a woman, and 2) I'm fiercely pro-gay rights. So even the one user who bothered to look at the pink userbox that says I'm female and wrote about how I kiss other women, I'm like, "Well. Yes, but only in college." *rolls eyes*
And link sent! It's really, really dull! -- Merope 22:31, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Moved from top of page[edit]

Thank you for your helpful reply about the entry I made on Eclectic. Interestingly, although you refer to the fact that it is my own contribution for the word, which is correct, it has been derived as part of work towards a Post Grad Certificate I am researching in Business Coaching. The research is based on many associated works consolidated through my own words. It also draws on my 51 years of personal experience in life, which, with reflection, has been eclectic in nature.

I would challenge the deletion in as much that if we do not profer new views and opinion, we will never learn or move forward.

Do you have a suggested way that I might include my submission, and contibute positively to an intelligent debate, in a Thinking Environment?

Thank you
