Wiki with sources[edit]
Hello there! I follow your advice and started to look around several libraries regarding the sources for the articles in question (that is, the Ecuadorian Peruvian dispute). - Response: I just recently took up AfD's. After doing if for a while I realized I went through the same steps time after time and thought there must be a better way. Went hunting around to find one. Found your page.

- Response: Didn't until I was asked to stand for Administrator and failed almost as miserably as anyone ever did. Decided I ought to figure out Wiki-policy. The only way to really understand things is to get involved in it. So recently I've lived in AfD and similar such.
- What is your OS (operating system)?
- Response: Microsoft XP Version 5.1 with Service Pack 2
- What version of IE do you have?
- Response: Version 6.0.2900.2180
- You do have cookies enabled right?
- Response: Can enable or disable as appropriate for the application. Currently enabled.
- Have you ever used AWB? (I have a reason for asking this :)
- Response: Nope. Thought about AWB once, but most of what I’ve done while editing is more content oriented (I do a fair amount of translation).

- You didn't ask about computer proficiency directly. Hardly great. I'm a physicist by education, but my son's degrees are in computer science and when I get stumped (more often than I like to admit) I call him.

- Regarding the last question, about AWB... you are going to need to follow the installation proceedure for AWB (don't have to download it, but the .NET framework is critical) Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser#Using this software, look in the second section (called download).
- No, the questions were not to computer know-how, but to whether or not your computer will work.
- Regarding you as an experianced AfD person. I have a few questions.
- when a AfD is opened, does the nominator's opinion count to the final tally (yes I know it is a disscussion, but part of WikiVoter is a statistics module.) Any advice here is welcome!Yes, I think the nominator's vote must count. I do find it irritating that some folks nominate but don't explain why & would prefer not to ocunt them, but it seems only fair. That said, I don't think the Admin who reviews it should consider it a straight vote, but should consider the merits of the discussions/arguments.
- is Query a valid response, (seen several), should the statistics module look for this and like statements? Queries are certainly some of the more important portions of the discussion, so yes, it is useful to look for them in the statistics.
- bullet points are the proper way to put your opinion right?I like bullets.
I have more, but that should do, (if at all possible, let me know if you are able to get onto IRC from home... have a few more questions like the above (about AfD in general)
Also one heads up, the program will randomly check to make sure that you are logged in under the same username (if not it will recount your edits as if you were opening up the program). You don't get to this number of edits while working full time and running sock puppets besides. Plus I've been lucky to avoid major wars; all mine seem to resolve with simple discussion that doesn't require dirty tricks.
Also you said you were a physicist, as in physics? This is my intended major... (along with mathematics...)That's the right combination. My undergraduate degrees were physics and math. . - Let's start with exactly the same sorting, BUT the infobox "genre =" field must have "Non-fiction" filled in, i.e. we want to get Non-fiction book articles with infoboxes (with missing info). - if genre = (nothing) it is incomplete / No Action
- if genre = (non fiction) then it is complete (for that field) / process the article and check if the infobox has problems with other fields then list those to Wikipedia:WikiProject_Books/InCompleteInfobox

All the autolists within the Novels WikiProject have been worked on in their current form for sometime. I think a refresh (using currect criteria) would be useful.

WP:BOOKS and WP:NOVELS joint list?[edit]
I'm quite happy with this idea. You might like to float it more generally to the project on the either the General Forum page or on a particular autolist talk page. It would depend for success on the clarity of purpose and a clear indication in the list for which item was which. That in itself might get difficult to achieve. - You are correct, I made a mistake due to testing a new version of VandalProof. I am sorry, and I apologize for my mistake. What happend was the program disconnected me immediatly before I clicked the revert button for the prior edit. When it reconnected it loaded your diff and and reverted you. For some reason I did not catch it do that until I looked at my history. I made a mistake, I am sorry. Isometry group[edit]
I edited the introduction to the article on isometric group. The definition was not clear . Saying that it is the 'set of all isometries with function composion as group operation' dosent specify the spaces between which we are establishing the isomorphism. In general isometry is a distance-preserving isomorphism between any 2 metric spaces but isometry group refers only to maps from the space onto itself. And that is precisely what I edited. I removed the part specifying that function composition acts as the group operation becuase that follows from the definition of isometry. It is absolutely needless to mention what the identity element of the group is.Besides, it never makes any sense with the current definition in place , i.e not mentioning the spaces between which we are considering the isometry.

(the program checks for this... similar to a signup list... just so I and admins know who is using this. (also makes WP:SOCK violations harder).
- Find me on IRC. I need you to send an e-mail to a e-mail address (so I can send you the program--- the e-mail is different from my e-mail for wikipedia) IRC nick is Eagle_101.

Trivia in Wikipedia[edit]
Hi Eagle101, I'm not sure which page you're referring to - please let me know. I argue that trivia sections in Wikipedia are contrary to Wikipedia policies. Here is the post to the Village Pump policy page I did recently: Articles on films, television shows, and celebrities often have a section at the end called "TRIVIA", in which editors list unimportant, obscure details related (sometimes distantly) to the topic. For example, in the Bill Clinton (former US president) article, there are 22 bullets of trivia, including information that he had "a male chocolate-colored Labrador Retriever named "Buddy" and a cat named "Socks"", that a television ad once depicted "Clinton and a voodoo doll", and that he makes a "thumb gesture". It can be argued that the inclusion of trivia goes against the core Wikipedia principles. Wikipedia is supposed to be an encyclopedia, "not an indiscriminate collection of information", "not a collection of ...trivia" or "A DUMPING GROUND FOR RANDOM INFORMATION" (all quotations from Wikipedia principles or policy pages, but emphasis added by editor). As well, Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy requires editors to cite "... verifiable, authoritative sources whenever possible"; the policy pages state that "WIKIPEDIA IS NOT FOR UNCITABLE MATERIAL". It can be argued that trivia-type information often is not derived from authoritative sources (e.g., other encyclopedias, almanacs, respected publications, etc.). ....Normally I move trivia to the talk page, where it can be discussed - perhaps I made an error in this case.

- Regarding you as an experianced AfD person. I have a few questions.
- when a AfD is opened, does the nominator's opinion count to the final tally (yes I know it is a disscussion, but part of WikiVoter is a statistics module.) Any advice here is welcome!Yes, I think the nominator's vote must count. I do find it irritating that some folks nominate but don't explain why & would prefer not to ocunt them, but it seems only fair. That said, I don't think the Admin who reviews it should consider it a straight vote, but should consider the merits of the discussions/arguments.
- is Query a valid response, (seen several), should the statistics module look for this and like statements? Queries are certainly some of the more important portions of the discussion, so yes, it is useful to look for them in the statistics.
- bullet points are the proper way to put your opinion right?I like bullets.

Also one heads up, the program will randomly check to make sure that you are logged in under the same username (if not it will recount your edits as if you were opening up the program). - Let's start with exactly the same sorting, BUT the infobox "genre =" field must have "Non-fiction" filled in, i.e. we want to get Non-fiction book articles with infoboxes (with missing info). I'm quite happy with this idea. You might like to float it more generally to the project on the either the General Forum page or on a particular autolist talk page. It would depend for success on the clarity of purpose and a clear indication in the list for which item was which. That in itself might get difficult to achieve. - You are correct, I made a mistake due to testing a new version of VandalProof. I am sorry, and I apologize for my mistake. What happend was the program disconnected me immediatly before I clicked the revert button for the prior edit. When it reconnected it loaded your diff and and reverted you. For some reason I did not catch it do that until I looked at my history. I made a mistake, I am sorry. Isometry group[edit]
I edited the introduction to the article on isometric group. The definition was not clear . Saying that it is the 'set of all isometries with function composion as group operation' dosent specify the spaces between which we are establishing the isomorphism. In general isometry is a distance-preserving isomorphism between any 2 metric spaces but isometry group refers only to maps from the space onto itself. And that is precisely what I edited. I removed the part specifying that function composition acts as the group operation becuase that follows from the definition of isometry. It is absolutely needless to mention what the identity element of the group is.Besides, it never makes any sense with the current definition in place , i.e not mentioning the spaces between which we are considering the isometry.

Trivia in Wikipedia[edit]
Hi Eagle101, I'm not sure which page you're referring to - please let me know. I argue that trivia sections in Wikipedia are contrary to Wikipedia policies. Here is the post to the Village Pump policy page I did recently: Articles on films, television shows, and celebrities often have a section at the end called "TRIVIA", in which editors list unimportant, obscure details related (sometimes distantly) to the topic. For example, in the Bill Clinton (former US president) article, there are 22 bullets of trivia, including information that he had "a male chocolate-colored Labrador Retriever named "Buddy" and a cat named "Socks"", that a television ad once depicted "Clinton and a voodoo doll", and that he makes a "thumb gesture". It can be argued that the inclusion of trivia goes against the core Wikipedia principles. Wikipedia is supposed to be an encyclopedia, "not an indiscriminate collection of information", "not a collection of ...trivia" or "A DUMPING GROUND FOR RANDOM INFORMATION" (all quotations from Wikipedia principles or policy pages, but emphasis added by editor). As well, Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy requires editors to cite "... verifiable, authoritative sources whenever possible"; the policy pages state that "WIKIPEDIA IS NOT FOR UNCITABLE MATERIAL". It can be argued that trivia-type information often is not derived from authoritative sources (e.g., other encyclopedias, almanacs, respected publications, etc.). ....Normally I move trivia to the talk page, where it can be discussed - perhaps I made an error in this case.
