Newboro, Ontario[edit]

Newboro, previously referred to as the Isthmus, is a village in the Rideau Lakes Township. Its first inhabitant was Benjamin Tett, who had purchased land there in 1837 [1] from Loyalist stock. Born in England, Tett operated a warehouse and docks on the Rideau Canal in 1839. Prior to this, he operated a mill in what would later become Westport. 1850 saw the completion of both a Methodist and an Anglican church in Newboro.

The first "school" began operations out of the Tett home in 1839, but a separate school was built in the late 1840's.
