A list of dispute resolutions, third opinions, and just general help that I've been involved with[edit]
N.B. - this is in userspace and it is intended as a reference for Doug and other dispute resolution volunteers or potential dispute resolution users who may be interested in what I've worked on. The characterization of the situations below is as Doug saw them. It is not intended to serve as an official record of the events, outcomes, or any other editor's conduct. Neither is intended to serve as material for disputing my actions, it is by its very nature incomplete. The notes after the links are only intended to remind me how things turned out - what I might change in the future, etc. It is in the nature of an After Action Review. If you want to know what happened, rather than what cases I've been involved in, it would be better if you reviewed the discussions involved, including diffs. If you want to know whether the parties were pleased with the outcome, please contact them as on that count I am most certainly biased. If you wish to comment on this page or any of these cases, please do so on your talk page, my talk page, or the appropriate dispute resolution forum.
WP:3O[edit]
- Talk:Tufts_University#Recent_Developments - Two editor conflict over depth of coverage of a current events issue - parties were at an impasse, I suggested problems with both editors versions and suggested that I would produce a compromise suggestion, however, the parties got there before I did.
WP:RFC[edit]
- Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Policies/Userbox_content#Discussion_12 - I made a couple of comments
- Wikipedia_talk:Miscellany_for_deletion#Proposed_overhaul_of_MfD_page - I commented on the proposed changes but I was already in the discussion before the RFC
WP:WQA[edit]
(these aren't transcluded, so you have to look through archives or page history)
- Wikipedia:Wikiquette_alerts#Talk:Phil_Hall_.28US_writer.29_and_user_DoubleCross - obviously it is a very bad practice to comment on this case at this time as one of the parties disputes the result and has started referencing this page.
- Wikipedia:Wikiquette_alerts#User_68.236.36.160 - advised recipient of uncivil user talk posts to disengage and stop deleting material from his own talk page as it was just inflaming the other user - even if policy supports deletion. Suggested Mediation would only work if other party was willing, but WP:RFC might make sense if things continued. Referring editor was very happy with the advice given. I did not find it advisable to involve the other party.
Nothing Whatsoever[edit]
- Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Cases/2008-01-18_Political_positions_of_John_Edwards - lead co-mediator, unfortunately it involved a two party dispute and the other party refused to participate
- Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Cases/2008-01-28_Nancy_Reagan - almost everyone refused to mediate - again.
- Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Cases/2008-02-04_Code_Pink - mediation resulted in long dissertations by the parties, I had trouble getting a word in edgewise (which if you knew me IRL you'd be very surprised), one party finally withdrew over what he took to be uncivil comments by the other. Might have been better as a WP:3O.
