I really cannot remember the first time i stumbled upon wikipedia, but i clearly remember thinking that that would not be my last time there. This is definitely a great site for people from all over the world to share a whole range of information with each other.
I am from Singapore and was born on the 2nd of July 1986. I am a Singaporean-Indian and have lived here all my life. I love this country but i would definitely want to spend a portion of my life in some other country, for the sake of experience. New Zealand is at the top of my list. I am currently serving my National Service in the army and will be done with that on the 6th of November 2006. And yes, you can bet your bottom dollar that i'm counting down the days. After that i'll be heading to National University of Singapore and will (hopefully) be pursuing a degree in biomedical sciences. As the Babel indicates, i can speak English and Bahasa Melayu. Unfortunately, even though i am Indian, i cannot read or write Hindi and can only understand it sparingly. Kinda shameful isn't it? But i am trying to learn!
Some people are curious as to why I can speak, write and read Bahasa Melayu but cannot do that for Hindi, when the latter is my actual mother tongue. That's because in Singapore, Hindi is a language spoken by the minority and therefore is not taught in mainstream schools. To learn these languages (Hindi, French, German...), students have to go to special schools during the weekends and frankly, my parents and I found it a hassle. So what you get is an Indian living in multi-racial Singapore with the capability to communicate fluently in Bahasa Melayu. At least I live up to the term multi-racial.
I'm really quite new to wikipedia and I am still learning the ropes and the ins and outs of this system. I have to admit that I am a computer idiot; anything remotely technological takes some getting used to when it comes to me, no matter how user-friendly it claims to be. So you can expect nothing fancy from me. I just want to be part of the Wiki community and play an active role in the propogation of useful information.
