OLV flak jacket – polish bullet-resistant vest, produced since the early 90's[1], intended for the use by the Polish Land Forces.

The vest is rated for protection against 9mm Parabellum bullets (Class II according to PN-V-87000:1999). Additionally the vest had the option to mount steel plates in the front, which could withstand 7.62mm rounds fired from AK rifles (Class IV according to PN-V-87000:1999), as well as being equipped with collar armor, brassards and detachable groin cover, all of which provide bullet-resistant capabilities[2].

The vest had 11 permanently-attached pouches:

  • Two AK-pattern rifle pouches, each holding 2 magazines,
  • Dressing pouch
  • Radio pouch
  • Pouch for a radio battery
  • MRE pouch
  • Shovel pouch
  • Two general purpose pouches
  • Two grenade pouches

Additionally, the vest came equipped with straps for mounting bayonets, MP-5 gasmask bags and sidearm holsters.

With all the ballistic inserts, the vest had a total weight of 11,5 kg. The vest was produced in Wz. 93 camo, in both woodland and desert variants.

The vests we're purchased in 2014 by Ukrainian volunteers for use in the ongoing War in Donbass.[3]

Users' opinions[edit]

The vests we're used by UNPROFOR and PKW Iraq. Users remarked about many shortcomings, such as heavier weight than foreign counterparts, unergonomic placement of pouches and easily breakable pouch velcro straps and buttons.[4]
