Wendigo (/ˈwɛndɪɡoʊ/) is a mythological creature or evil spirit which originates from the folklore of First Nations based in and around the East Coast forests of Canada, the Great Plains region of the United States, and the Great Lakes region of the United States and Canada, grouped in modern ethnology as speakers of Algonquian-family languages. The wendigo is often said to be a malevolent spirit, sometimes depicted as a creature with human-like characteristics, which possesses human beings. The wendigo is known to invoke feelings of insatiable greed/hunger, the desire to cannibalize other humans, as well as the propensity to commit murder in those that fall under its influence. Have you ever seen a large humanoid walking in the dark with large antlers. Well, you might want to run the other way because you have probably come into contact with a Wendigo. As the story goes, there was once a man who became lost in the deep dark forest. While being lost his hunger overcomes him. He begins to loose sight of himself and thirsts for human flesh. As the winter storm, brushes across his skin after feasting on a human. He transforms into a man eating animal starving for more human flesh.

This story is based off of an Native American tribe called the Algonquian. Some stories say that the Wendigo (also known as Windigo) are related to Bigfoot. Despite his emaciated bodies, Wendigo is depicted by some as Goliath, estimating at around 14.8 to 15 feet in tallness. While there are slight varieties regarding the actual portrayal of this animal among the different Algonquian people groups, it is by large concurred that the Wendigo has shining eyes, long yellowed teeth, and long tongues.[1] While others say that they are tangled with hair or have rotting skin. He is also said to have long sharp nails to rip apart human flesh. The Wendigo is known for living in cold weather. Most sightings of these creatures were found in places like Canada or North of the United States.
Different people had their own version of what is a Wendigo. Some people thought that they were fast as the speed of light, and could endure long hikes in harsh weather. Others say he walks around slow, and just his voice alone could get you caught. The Wendigo has a scary ability where he can mimic a human voice. This allowed many of his prey to believe that someone they cared deeply for is in trouble. This gift allows him to catch his prey with little to no effort. A large number of Algonquian people went missing in the 20th century. This was believed to be caused by the Wendigo.
