User:AllTheUsernamesAreInUse/Peter Zabriskie transcript

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is the transcript of an argument that I had with User:Peterzabriskie via email over a content dispute on the page Zabriskie in August 2023. I thought about posting it to my talk page, but thought it was a bit too late to do that. You can view the dispute in the history of the Zabriskie page. I do moderately regret how I handled the conflict, though I had much less experience with these kinds of interactions then. Anyway, the conflict has since been resolved (at least for now). I am posting this because I believe in transparency.

Peter

  • Dear Sir or Madam, if you are not an expert in the Zabriskie Family please do not edit by deletion Zabriskie Family Members. Thank you for your interest and time. Peter Zabriskie

Me

  • I am not an expert in the Zabriskie family. However, only notable people may be included in name pages, and upon a quick Google search, neither Peter Zabriskie appeared to be notable enough to be included. Also there is no reason to put <ref> at the bottom of the places section.

Peter

  • You obviously don't know what you are talking about. Please stop editing this page or I will appeal your edit over your head.

Peter

  • OK forgive my abruptness, we are supposed to hash it out. OR submit this dispute to a mediation notice board.
  • If being a Revolutionary War hero and subject of a published and widely read book on the American Revolution which I referenced, moreover a Signer of The US Constitution as a Ratifier for Bergen Co. New Jersey is NOT notable enough, WHAT IS?
  • My other entry Peter J. Zabriskie, if being a PEACE CORP leader appointed by President John F.Kennedy is not notable enough, again WHAT IS? Moreover this member of our Family is a Notable AFRO-AMERICAN member which is outstanding in it's own right as our family is labeled as a Founding Father Slave white racist slave family which is false and Peter J. Zabriskie and his story documents that. As does the destruction of the Zabriskie Tenent house on Dunkerhook Rd, Paramus New Jersey.
  • Look if all you know about our Family is what you can find on Google then you had better seek better sources. I, my brothers', my father before me are major contributors to The Bergen County Historical Society, active members in the Dutch Reformed Church, the Holland Society, and the Smithsonian. We are the people who are getting the information into Google. If you would like more information about the Zabriskie Family, or would like to trace a member I have George Olin Zabriskie Genealogy and can search and answer those questions for you. Please don't escalate this issue. These Zabriskie members are indeed World-wide Notable Zabriskies'
  • Sincerely, Peter Zabriskie

Me

  • Being in the Revolutionary War or the Peace Corps does not equal notability. I cannot find any reliable sources establishing notability for either of these two people, and being locally famous or important does not make one notable enough for encyclopaedic inclusion, nor does personal significance. If you have reliable sources, please point me to them. Appeal my edit if you wish, because I will be reverting again and I don't want to get into an edit war.

Peter

  • If this is not at least as notable aa "David Zabriskie (born 1986), amateur wrestler" or "George Zabriskie Gray (1837–1889), American priest" or " Chris Zabriskie (born 1982), American composer" then we have a serious disagreement over what the word "notable" connotates. The same is true for Peter J. Zabriskie who as I told you is a singular representative of outstanding achievement not only for the Zabriskie Family but for Afro-Americans. If on the anniversary of Martin Luther Kings "I Have A Dream" you want to argue this in the public forum, I am up for it. I am trying to be reasonable, bur your arbitrary designations are outlandish and indefensible.
  • Sincerely, Peter Zabriskie

Peter

  • PS It is :
  • en·cy·clo·pe·dic, adjective
  • /inˌsīkləˈpēdik,enˌsīkləˈpēdik/
  • adjective: encyclopaedic
  • comprehensive in terms of information.
  • "he has an almost encyclopedic knowledge of food"

Me

  • I did not decide what is notable, the community of Wikipedia did, and I am inclined to believe that they will largely agree with me. Those sources are reliable but I do not see them establishing notability in terms of Wikipedia's guidelines. While your ancestors may have been somewhat historically significant, Wikipedia notability is different and I do not believe that they are suitable for inclusion on a name page on Wikipedia. If you still disagree with me, then I suggest we take this to a noticeboard. Also, there was no reason to revert my second edit, which did not relate to your family.

Peter

  • This is the Wiki official designation for "notable".. Peter Zabriskie of Hackensack more than fills these requirements. Just because Wiki does not have a page for him. or a cursory Google search, is not the criteria for establishing his qualifications for having one. If you would like to author that page I can provide more than enough publications to support his Wiki page. Sincerely, Peter Zabriskie

Me

  • I doubt that he would be able to receive a Wikipedia article. I would still like to get an opinion from a noticeboard. I am also going to make my second edit again, which does not relate to your family, so please don't revert, considering I don't know why you did in the first place.

Peter

  • I have added this to my UserTalk. As soon as I can find where to publish it in a forum I will. Thank you for your regard. Sincerely, Peter Zabriskie
  • My edit of the page Zabriskie has been challenged over the Notable person Peter Zabriskie of Hackensack New Jersey. I have not undertaken to write the Wiki page for him as I am obviously too close to the subject to be objective, but there is much written about Peter Zabriskie in publications on both commercial and governmental pages. Just a cursory web search of Peter Zabriskie Hackensack Revolution turns up 3-4 pages of titles that mention him. He is a subject in several books on the American Revolution, which was primarily fought on New Jersey soil and so on Peter Zabriskie's lands, and in his influence. That Peter was a host to General Washington was not his only documented accomplishment, he was also captured by the British in the process creating a war slogan that rallied the troops, "Here's a toast to King George! King George Washington!" He further commanded troops a colonel in the Revolutionary forces, and further still after the war remained as a Judge for New Jersey and was elected to be a Signatory on the Constitution for his home when it came the New Jersey for Ratification. All of this is written in published works where I have read and absorbed it. I have referenced my readings with my edits. Yet my detractors remain in disagreement with me. The Official U.S. Government records of Peter Zabriskie's correspondence with General Washington are public as is his signature in the New Jersey records for the U.S. Constitution held in Trenton. Which I had corrected to show in the digital forms Peter Zabriskie spelled as you see it here, and not misspelled as they had it. Standing on personal copies of Peter Zabriskie's correspondence and signature we have had, but now is with either the Bergen Co. Historical Society, or the Smithsonian.
  • In George Washington's own personal correspondence when it is read reveals that the time spent with Peter Zabriskie was more than just a night of retreat from NYC, it was a critical turning event in the war as General Washington left and returned to Peter's home having been enroute to Fort Washington which was a terrible rout. My editor [my first and last name were here; I omitted it to retain anonymity] lack of American Historical knowledge is only more evidence that the already published accounts should be reinforced on Wiki "Notable" pages.

Me

  • When you do, could you link me to it so I may present my side as well? Also, I would ask that you don't use my real name, as they won't know who you are referring to. Thank you

Peter

  • They took it down from my talk page so I do not have a forum to discuss this. Your Wiki system is more imposing than my talents to navigate. At this time.
  • Sincerely, Peter Zabriskie

Me

  • I can wait until a Wikipedia article is written about Peter Zabriskie. If it gets deleted or the Wikipedia community determines it is not notable, then I will remove the entries from the Zabriskie page.

Statements[edit]

As you can see, people are fun. Being accused of vandalism by someone who tries to post a complaint to the talk page of the requests for comment page, to my apparent "lack of historical knowledge", to my "indefensible arbitrary designations" (at least I know the rules), to being very implicitly accused of racism...

That user also sent an email to several professors of Rutgers University asking for their assistance in creating a page for his ancestor Peter Zabriskie. As far as I know, no attempt has yet been made.

Oh well. New Jerseyans, amirite?
