Bratz Genie Magic is a 2006 Bratz direct-to-DVD film. It is the third movie based on the Bratz brand, following Bratz: Starrin' & Stylin' and Bratz Rock Angelz. It is the second CGI film for the brand. The film acts as a continuation of Bratz Rock Angelz, as the Bratz are seen performing as a band in the opening sequence.

Plot[edit]

Cloe, Jade, Yasmin, and Sasha get more than they bargained for when they take Katia, the mysterious new student at Styles High, under their wing. The girls soon find that Katia is really a misunderstood genie that has been locked away under the control of con artists Con and Zel for years. This villainous duo manipulates Katia into using her powers for what she believes is good, but proves to be the very opposite. With a crumbling father-daughter relationship and a growing curiosity for the outside world, Katia’s one wish for herself is to be a normal girl. Zealous to grant wishes and experience life as one of the Bratz, Katia never fails to find herself in the middle of trouble. The girls learn the consequences of magic when Katia comes to them to help her put an end to Con and Zel’s scheme, and the pressure all begins to take a toll on girls’ friendships. In this magical adventure, Cloe, Jade, Yasmin, Sasha, and Katia learn the value of self-sacrifice and the strongest magic of all – friendship.

Merchandise[edit]

Genie Magic Dolls[edit]

The release of the Genie Magic line was the first of its kind for the brand, with a strong emphasis on Arabic and Indian fashion. The characters included are Cloe, Sasha, Yasmin, Jade, and Meygan (who is not featured in the Bratz Genie Magic movie). Katia can also be purchased, but only as part of a playset with her Genie Magic Bottle. The doll’s outfits consist of traditional floor-length skirts, cropped shirts, gold thread detailing, juttis, henna, and bindis. Each doll also includes a second outfit that is less traditional than the first, and more westernized. Other accessories include a miniaturized crystal ball and lamp-shaped fortune telling toy similar to the “magic 8-ball”.[1]

Other Merchandise[edit]

As all Bratz films, a collection of other promotional items was released to accompany the theme. The Genie Magic line includes the following products[2] :

Bratz Genie Magic As You Wish! Board Game
Bratz Genie Magic Bead Yourself Activity Kit
Bratz Genie Magic Magic Carpet
Bratz Genie Magic Fortune Teller
Bratz Genie Magic Bedroom Set
Bratz Genie Magic 150. Pc Puzzle and Stickers
Bratz Genie Magic Vanity with Meygan

A soundtrack entitled Bratz: Genie Magic Soundtrack also accompanies the movie, which includes songs from the Genie Magic movie and the Bratz television series.

Sequel: Bratz Desert Jewelz[edit]

The sequel was delayed due to the court battle between MGA Entertainment and Mattel, causing it to be released in 2012. This is six years after the first movie. It is speculated that the movie was originally meant to be released in 2009, as it leaked online that year. All voice actors were switched except for Tara Strong who returned to voice her character, Katia. [3]
