Symbolism[edit]

The crown symbolizes wealth, nobility, and wisdom. It's also a homage to how Santo Domingo was created by nobility. The red in the escutcheon represents the victory that made Santo Domingo. The two lions represent the sovereignty of the nation, and energy. The blue key represents the blue sky, and safety.[2] The "background" of the coat of arms of Santo Domingo is the coat of arms of the Order of Preachers, which was founded by St Dominic, in which the country and Santo Domingo is named after.
