Yasir Obaid Thani Al Shukaili (born August 10, 1975) is an Omani scientist specializing in animal sciences, particularly focused on livestock reproduction. As of 2023, he is the Head of the Livestock Reproduction Research Section at the Livestock Production Research Centre, under the Directorate General of Agriculture & Livestock Research, Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Water Resources in the Sultanate of Oman. Al Shukaili is known for his contributions to animal husbandry and reproductive technologies, including seminal research on the cryopreservation of semen and the genetic characterization of livestock.
Early Life and Education[edit]
Al Shukaili was born in the Sultanate of Oman. He completed his Bachelor of Sciences (BSc) in Animal Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, in 1999, and obtained his Master of Animal Sciences (MSc), focusing on Animal Husbandry, from the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia in 2005. His thesis explored "The Characteristic of Romney Sheep's Breed on Genetic Markers."

Al Shukaili began his professional career in 2000 at the General Directorate of Animal Production, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, where he served as an Animal Production Engineer in the Rangeland Department until 2006. His work primarily focused on overseeing animal production processes and ensuring optimal rangeland management.
In 2006, Al Shukaili took on the role of Head of Livestock Reproduction Research Section at the Livestock Production Research Centre, where he has since made significant contributions to the field of livestock reproduction. His responsibilities include overseeing semen production, cryopreservation, and distribution, as well as leading annual artificial insemination programs and conducting research in related areas.
Contributions and Achievements[edit]
Al Shukaili has played a pivotal role in advancing livestock reproduction research in Oman. Notably, he spearheaded the inception of the Livestock Reproduction Research Section and was instrumental in establishing the laboratory for semen cryopreservation. He has led a team of researchers and technicians in running a semen freezing laboratory, establishing a cattle sperm bank, and conducting research in animal reproduction.
His published work includes several articles and conference papers on the qualitative assessment of semen, flow cytometry analysis of bovine semen, and the application of computer-assisted sperm analysis (CASA) for the conservation of endangered species.
