Bibliography[edit]

  1. [1]This article works with our topic of youth activism because it discusses the multiple ways that young people engage with politics. Specifically this article focuses on the fact that young people play a role in inspiring fellow young people to engage with politics. This is very important especially in the age of internet activism.
  2. [2]This article looks at a specific case of 23 young activists that are based in Singapore. These accounts describe how young activists have rethought the Singapore political system. On top of the different approach to the political system, it also discusses the different types of technology and how they can be used in relation with activism.
  3. [3]This article is very interesting because it discusses the differences between social movements and electoral politics. Youth activism has risen in the genre of social movements however youth turnout is still low in electoral politics. This article examines the recent changes that have occurred in the relationship between the two, specifically looking at the Obama 2008 and 2021 election.
  4. [4]In this research, they specifically look at UK organizations that bring together different types of youth activism and people. Within the article, they highlight the fact that within different types of organizations, different youth activists arise.
  5. [5]Like the Rethinking article, this research focuses on youth collective activism online. Within this journal, they explore the relationship between self efficacy and collective efficacy. This is extremely important when it comes to the top of youth activism because it has become such a collective movement.
  6. [6]This journal discusses the different types of youth activism specifically found in Estonia. This article finds that only a limited number of the youth are actually politically active while the majority are inactive. This is important to youth activism and may provide an explanation as to why we can see a large youth turnout for a rally, but not large enough at the polls.
  7. [7]This article by the Guardian provides an important personal take on passions that fuel young activists fighting for change. These activists fight for many reasons but some included young medical students fighting for abortion rights or young activists fighting against climate change. These personal accounts are important for youth activism because the reason so many young people are passionate is because these issues are personal.
  8. [8]This Guardian article discusses the rally led by University students to combat climate change. This account is very important for the article because it discusses one of the most important issues for young people—the environment. It also provides another example of how young people have come together to fight certain issues in society.
