"The D in Apartment 23" is the sixth episode of the sixteenth season of Family Guy, and the 295th episode overall. It aired on Fox in the United States on November 12, 2017, and is written by Artie Johann and directed by Julius Wu.[1] The title is a reference to Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23. In the episode, Brian starts using Twitter and posts a tweet deemed racist, which leads to the Griffins becoming social outcasts and Brian being forced to move out.

Plot[edit]

Brian takes Stewie with him when he goes to Quahog University to (unsuccessfully) hit on college-aged women. After seeing some protests about the incompetent Quahog University staff members, Brian then decides to reactivate his Twitter account. Stewie tells Brian that no one cares about Twitter much anymore, and he especially doesn't care about the tweets of a non-athlete or celebrity like Brian, but Brian ignores him.

When Brian heads to the movies to see Baywatch, he makes a tweet saying he isn't interested in Ride Along 3 saying he’s white and went to college. The message goes viral while he's enjoying the film. Upon seeing the reaction his post has caused, Brian is horrified. He deletes the tweet and all his social media accounts and tries to defend the tweet as "just a joke" (similar to the Justine Sacco incident), but no one wants to hear it and he quickly becomes a pariah. The Griffins don't think he meant to be a bigot, but they become more angry as Quahog shuns them.

  • Lois is ignored at Stop & Shop by its staff.
  • At the Drunken Clam, Peter is denied a drink from Jerome as Quagmire states that he warned him about Brian. As Peter states that Brian did that Tweet as a joke, Cleveland says that it was hurtful, as Joe starts talking like his police officer personality to get Peter to leave the bar.
  • The student body at James Woods High School forces Meg and Chris into a murderous re-creation of the hate church massacre sequence from Kingsman: The Secret Service and also a minor fight scene from SPL: Sha Po Lang.

Brian tries to apologize to the mob outside the house at Lois' suggestion, but it goes awry as he keeps getting interrupted by unseen non-humans in the mob, and he ends up reprimanding them, calling them hypocrites who are no better than him, how they’re overreacting to something small, detailing how his life has been ruined and screaming about his love for "black porn". He thanks the family for supporting him, but Lois stuns him by saying the family has discussed things and decided he needs to move out to keep everyone safe from the mob's wrath.

After packing his car, Brian leaves sadly without even his collar (Stewie takes it back because it has the Griffins' address on it) to a dismal new life. He drives off while listening to Buckner & Garcia's "Pac-Man Fever". Living in a run-down apartment as it was the only place that had a vacancy, Brian is advised by the building manager Lou Spinazola to follow the one rule: not to kiss the mail man. Brian has no one around him anymore as he shops at the Quahog Pharmacy, puts up with the new lightbulbs shorting out and overhearing the neighbors through the walls.
