Change request 'ct' template[edit]

Please go to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cycling#Change request 'ct' template to see my request. Sander.v.Ginkel (talk) 17:14, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

New link[edit]

Could you link this team Team Soigneur to TSO? I think they are the same team and have no idea how your template works Gbawden (talk) 12:57, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Text color needed[edit]

Since sometime they put dark back, where blue color cant be seen. textcolor=white would solve that. --Petar Milošević (talk) 10:13, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 30 October 2023[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Moved to Template:UCI team code. A rough consensus has developed to move Template:Ct to Template:UCI team code. Template:Cycling team is not moved as a result since there is no need to usurp the template name, and no consensus to move that either. (closed by non-admin page mover) – robertsky (talk) 16:58, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

– To free the Ct name for the "contentious topics" series of templates, which is an internal abbreviation used for describing contentious topics. I know one is older than the other, but CT is used more to refer to "contentious topics" (see {{ct/alert}} and {{ct/aware}}) post rename of the discretionary sanctions system than this. Since this is a big move, a bot will need to update each mainspace transclusion to the new template name. Awesome Aasim 20:59, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose as proposed the ct template is for the UCI code, so should just say that. {{UCI team code}}; the other template doesn't need to move at all, though {{Navbox cycling team meta}} could be used, since it is a meta template used to build a navbox template. Place "navbox" at the beginning akin to how meta infoboxes are named. -- 65.92.247.90 (talk) 21:28, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose as proposed as confusing, since the contents of Template:Cycling team will suddenly change for no good reason. There is simply no reason why the second template needs to be moved; we should simply find a different target for the first template. -- King of ♥ 00:52, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay I am starting to concur a bit with IP. King of Hearts, I also kind of agree with your reason, but I was trying to find a suitable title for the other template. A usurp is a bit bold which is why I was only thinking it should be done with good reason. To free up an internal project abbreviation sounds like a good reason for me. Awesome Aasim 19:50, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move Template:Ct to Template:UCI team code per 65.92.247.90, and no change for the other. I agree with the underlying rationale to usurp the "ct" shortcut for something major and internal.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  08:19, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Question: Would this move require all the sub templates e.g. Template:Cycling data INS to change their usage from {{ct|INS|2023}} (Ineos Grenadiers) to be written differently. If so then this template is used on many many pages and may be a pain to have to change. Paulpat99 (talk) 08:35, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like {{UCI team}} is free; maybe we can use that as it's more concise. -- King of ♥ 17:54, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That could conceivably become a navbox, for all UCI-coded teams or all UCI-registered teams, so I chose the name with "code" on the end. -- 65.92.247.90 (talk) 23:32, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Awesome Aasim: The following pages were moved, and redirects were left from the old name to the new name. These redirects should be deleted or retargeted once a bot has swept through them if the intent is to repurpose {{ct}}:

@Ahecht Wonderful. Can you update the transclusions to free up the redirect? Thank you. Awesome Aasim 20:29, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Awesome Aasim There's something like 12,000 pages that use {{Ct}}. That would need a bot request at WP:BOTREQ (and potentially a WP:BRFA). --Ahecht (TALK

@Ahecht can we make use of Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Holding_cell#To_substitute to work this out? – robertsky (talk) 02:30, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Awesome Aasim The "to substitute" section means using the subst: function to convert them to static text, not substituting a different template name for the original one. --Ahecht (TALK

You prob meant to @Robertsky :) Awesome Aasim 12:50, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It has been awhile since I dealt with template editing that I forgot how subst operates. Thanks for the refresher. ^.^ In any case, I have rolled up my sleeves and worked on the remaining 98-ish transclusions in the Template space using AWB, which in turn shifted 300+ links to Template:UCI team code. There're still 11,700+ pages to be edited. – robertsky (talk) 00:20, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Awesome Aasim FYI, Bot task has been approved, and it is running at the moment. It is processing ~11,300 articles at the moment. – robertsky (talk) 14:32, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Awesome Aasim, the bot run is complete for most of the articles in the main space. There are still a couple of pages that require manual triage. Can you help to verify if these pages and/or the templates (and/or Modules) are free of {{ct}}?
I will be running manual updates on the other namespaces through AWB on RobertskySemi account, about 270 pages.
Several things to note:
  • Other template(s)' documentation pages may require updating, i.e.Special:Diff/1199680243.
  • A notification to users actively using {{ct}} may be required. My bot was using a list of pages that I compiled at the end of November 2023. In between then and now, there have been at least 50+ new usages of {{ct}}.
Do share your next steps. – robertsky (talk) 18:15, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How about can you do the 50 runs and then we can maybe free the redirect. There is the concern of old revisions but those are probably the least of our worries. Maybe we can have some logic that warns users in the preview when it is attempted to be transcluded {{preview warning}}. Awesome Aasim 21:24, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Had done so, and monitoring. I have managed to find the cause of the transclusion at the 2015 articles above, nested in a switch statement here, {{Cyclist women team data 2015}}. I have gone through the other namespaces manually, and they are also cleared of the usage of {{ct}}. I think you can do the switch over any time. – robertsky (talk) 01:17, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Robertsky You or another template editor/admin will need to do the usurping because the redirect is also template protected. Awesome Aasim 23:50, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Awesome Aasim done – robertsky (talk) 01:36, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
