Removal of non-Rockies material[edit]

I don't see why this tempalte ever included the Columbia Mtns ski areas given its title and intent, which is to mirror the branding perception of the Kootenays as part of the Rockies; I'm sure this wasn't consciously intentional on teh part of hte wikipedian who created it that way, and it's a common misperception stateside that all mountains in BC are either t he Rockies or Cascades (rather west). I don't see the point in there being a template which excludes other BC ski areas; I'm not sure that Monashees list was really correct either given teh absence of Big White and Silver Star and other smaller hills; and once they're in teh loop so should be Apex etc. "Ski resorts of the Kootenays and Alberta Rockies" is almost OK, excewpt of course some people won't get that teh Kootenays include the BC Rockies (i.e. the Rockies are part of the East Kootenay, but the Kootenays are not "part of the Rockies"....It's a very important difference and yeah, maybe semantics, but if tweaking semantics ain't what goes on in Wiki-particularity then either consistency is consistency or it's not. If this Monashees, Purcells and Selkirks go back in, the title has to change; either that of "Ski resorts in the Canadian Cordillera", in which case the Yukon can be included. BTW is Powder King in here? (Northern Rockies - hart Ranges specifically). Also "Columbia Mountains" could have included the Shuswap Highland and Quesnel Highland, therefore Sun Peaks and also Troll Ski Resort, up by Quesnel, and other small hills; unless "resort" is a key word to play off of here, small hills without commercial resort development other than the bar, rental shop and a parking lot don't count? I saw this on the Kimberly Alpine Resort page and it just wan'st right to see it there - maybe it was its wikicode name only visible in edit that made me do it, but given the explicity of other Wiki titling and content this one just didn't wash; and too much resembles government marketing strategies for me to be comfortable with it.Skookum1 (talk) 05:31, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PS on a related tangent Resorts of the Canadian Rockies is a corporate article; I have a rename proposal up on it as Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, Inc. to distinguish it from a potential List of ski resorts in the Canadian Rockies. I think the congolmerat's choice of name was deliberate exactly because of its searchability as a common phrase; insidious these new-era marketing grads, insidioius, just insidious.....Skookum1 (talk) 05:34, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

removed material as diff template[edit]

I could just start this but wanted input:

The Okanagan and Kamloops areas can be left off if the name is "Ski Resorts in the Kootenays", or more could be included if this was just "Ski resorts in British Columbia". But given a Columbia Mtns name, It's pretty much what I took out of the now-rockies-only template plus the other Monashees hills (the major ones anyway). Now, I thought about continuing on beyond the Thompson River but it's a long way to Troll Ski Resort but for now I'm including it in the template; I think Blue River used to have a small hill, I remember the little skier symbol on the old BC roadmaps, I'll check, maybe also Clearwater?; definitely a heli-skiing area which begs the question of adding licensed regions for heliskiing into the mix. There are also other small hills to add in, if "resorts" is taken liberally that is; but most community clubs have folded because of costs vs competition from the well-serviced resorts, which themselves struggle for business; sorry can't fit in Apex; Both these templates could use some nice photos to dress 'em up, f'sure.
