Template purpose[edit]

This template is for notable descendants of Jan Fishan Khan. See the associated category:Shah family. Thanks, Esowteric (talk) 12:03, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please discuss changes[edit]

Please fully explain your additions in the edit summary; or discuss the proposed additions here, providing reliable sources; or check with User:Jayen466. Amina Ali-Shah[edit]

Amina786 has added Amina Ali-Shah (Amina Soraya Ali-Shah) to generation 6 of the Shah family template. Have confirmed that Omar Ali-Shah has a daughter of that name, though no article as yet. EricT (talk) 11:38, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Naseeruddin Shah[edit]

From an Indian Express article: "See, my brother came back raving last week from a few days spent with one of our best-ever actors, Naseeruddin Shah. "Lovely guy!" he enthused and proceeded to tell me a fascinating tale of Shah's ancestry, heard from source. Apparently Naseer (who first electrified us as the stern Brahmin priest in the Kannada classic Tabbaliyu Neenade Magane, remade in Hindi as Godhuli). Turns out there was this pardada-plus forbear from Paghman in Afghanistan, who came as a mercenary to India. The family received the zamindari of Sardana for loyal service to the British. Sardana, not far from Meerut, is best-known for its beautiful Italianate church built by the colourful Begum Sumroo, who was partnered by the equally colourful mercenary, Walter Reinhardt `El Sombre' (desified to Sumroo). At which point I realised Naseeruddin Shah was a clansman of the writer Idries Shah, ..." JN466 15:26, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anna Maria Ali-Shah[edit]

Have added Anna Maria Ali-Shah, wife of Omar Ali-Shah. Amina786 had just added her to parents of Arif Ali-Shah. Esowteric+Talk 10:28, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Imaad Shah[edit]

He is son of Naseeruddin Shah. --Sayed Mohammad Faiz Haider Rizvitalk! 10:05, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Added Lt. Gen. Zameerud-din Shah, Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University and bother of Naseeruddin Shah. The references can be seen internally on this Wikipedia itself and the articles on each person.

I really like these templates. We need more of these for families from less-represented partss of the world.

Live?[edit]

When can we start adding this template to the articles on specific individuals?

Notables[edit]

How many people in the template are actually notable? We have a lot of unlinked entries and some redlinks. Navigation templates are intended to help the reader navigate, so if an article does not exist it is no use at all. Furthermore, Wikipedia is not a genealogy website. I will be pruning this template unless things begin to move soon. - Sitush (talk) 18:13, 7 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Do. Notables only. --Andreas JN466 19:09, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. However, it might be a good idea to leave the following in generations 1 to 3? (although generations 2 and 3 are not notable as far as WP is concerned, they are pivotal as far as the lineage is concerned / important for continuity):
  • 1st generation: Muhammed Shah (Jan-Fishan Khan)
  • 2nd generation: Nawab Muhammad Ali Shah, Sardar Bhadur Mir Khan
  • 3rd generation: Nawab Syed Amjad Ali Shah (last Nawab of Sardhana)
I really can't remember which of the other unlinked folk are worthy of inclusion.
All the rest could be blue-links only.

FAO: Sitush.
Yes, thanks. I am having a lot of internet connection problems at the moment, per my last post on my talk page, and am also trying to patrol an article that is up for deletion. I will get round to this. Feel free to ping me in a week if nothing has happened - my new router will have turned up well before then. - Sitush (talk) 15:28, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Esowteric: I am a bit lost with your remark about keeping non-notables in the interests of continuity. We don't usually keep them and they will just attract the addition of more non-notables. - Sitush (talk) 13:07, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Sitush: Okay, that's fine. It's just that we'll then be left with 1st generation jumping straight to 4th generation, with no indication of what came between the two, or on what basis notable 4th generation entries have been added. Totally up to you, thanks. Regards, Esowteric+Talk 14:25, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I realise that. We either completely rewrite the template so that it doesn't mention generations or we put a "not applicable" type of note for the sections that would be empty. No idea which would be better. - Sitush (talk) 14:28, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe leave the generations and, as you suggest, add "not applicable", and just see how that goes. Thanks, Esowteric+Talk 14:37, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Done. - Sitush (talk) 14:54, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot, Sitush. Esowteric+Talk 16:44, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
