Free parameter[edit]

The |free= parameter is documented as "if free=yes, the substituted text will explicitly request a freely-licensed photograph" but actually it requests replacement of a non-free image with a free image, something different. I think having |free= and |replace= parameters are needed. Jason Quinn (talk) 08:03, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

in = Countyname, Statename[edit]

See Wikipedia:Help desk#Photo Request Template for details. I believe I've coded this at Template:Photo requested/sandbox, with test cases at Template:Photo requested/testcases. Could an admin or another template editor check my work and copy it to the main template? -- John of Reading (talk) 12:18, 10 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If the changes are synced, I'd like to suggest that perhaps Template:Last word is at least semiprotected. — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 14:00, 10 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@John of Reading: Did a sync with tweaks. This version uses Module:String directly (which is protected) rather than {{Last word}}. (Maybe it was a bit fussy, but I think it's safer...) Let me know if we should fix anything else correction, my bad — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 23:49, 10 August 2016 (UTC) 00:05, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Andy M. Wang: Thank you, using Module:String directly is a good idea. -- John of Reading (talk) 05:59, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

subject category example not showing up correctly?[edit]

As near as I can tell the basic example of the template and the one "with subject category parameter" example are the same. Not sure what the subject category example should look like but maybe the wikitext needs to be altered? Thanks Jessamyn (talk) 16:40, 10 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Can we make this template emit coords?[edit]

Can we make this template emit coordinates through a parameter so that it is listed on maps with requested photographs even if the article it is attached to has no coordinates set? E.g., to request an image of a statue of a person in their biographical article. Sandstein 06:58, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

More specific media request template?[edit]

The second sentence: "Please replace this template with a more specific media request template where possible." should be removed or replaced becauase there is no more specific media request template. The sentence seems to have been copied from Template:Image_requested.--SaskatchewanSenator (talk) 18:48, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 8 July 2020[edit]

The link to the Free Image Search Tool is broken (404 error). I found the new link: [1]. Please update the template with it. Thanks. — Tartan357  (Talk) 04:00, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Nardog and Tartan357: seems to have moved to https://fist.toolforge.org/fist.php — this template is broken again. DemonDays64 (talk) 06:20, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@DemonDays64: Thanks for notifying me, I've fixed it as far as I could find. Nardog (talk) 06:39, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

argument in should be an alias to argument in1[edit]

Currently, if you type {{Photo requested|in1=place 1|in2=place 2}}, in1 will not work. I think this should be fixed so that it can be consistent with other templates such as citation templates, where {{Cite book|author=person}} and {{Cite book|author1=person}} works the same. – Ase1estet@lkc0ntribs 04:26, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The header has been changed from argument <code>in1</code> should be an alias to argument <code>in</code> to argument <code>in</code> should be an alias to argument <code>in1</code>. – Ase1estet@lkc0ntribs 00:40, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 28 January 2021[edit]

Copy this diff in the sandbox to the main template. The documentation should be updated as well.

The change makes it so that the template accepts in1 as an argument, and in becomes an alias to in1. If both arguments are present, in1 is used.

Two new test cases are added to test this change.

I think the change is not controversial because the change should not break any existing proper usages of the template and does not add any new content to the template. I could be wrong about this though... – Ase1estet@lkc0ntribs 00:57, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

CC Search name change to Openverse[edit]

CC Search was renamed to Openverse, and began redirecting visitors to a new location in December 2021. The link currently in use redirects to the right place, but we might as well fix the name and use the new URL.

I request to change this (within the small text at the bottom of the box):

[https://search.creativecommons.org/search?{{#if:{{{of|}}}|q={{urlencode:{{{of}}} }}&}}license=cc0,pdm,by,by-sa Creative Commons Search]

to this:

[https://wordpress.org/openverse/search/?{{#if:{{{of|}}}|q={{urlencode:{{{of}}} }}&}}license=cc0,pdm,by,by-sa Openverse]

This changes the first part of the URL and the link display text; the URL parameter syntax appears to have stayed the same.

Thank you! Bsoyka (talk) 00:14, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Bsoyka: thank you for the note, while that should be an improvement I'm wondering if we should be linking in to wordpress.org - has anyone reviewed their privacy policy? For note, this appears to be the announcement. — xaosflux Talk 01:05, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Xaosflux: I'm not familiar with their privacy policy. I assume, like all major websites, it's full of sneaky legalese to collect personal information. However, I will note the 60k times we already link to WordPress in the article space. Bsoyka (talk) 01:11, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Bsoyka we link to all sorts of things from articles, as references can be anywhere and there is some expectation that readers understand that - we are a bit more cautious with links in our interface (note the distinct lack of these in a similar search. How about if the label says "WordPress Openverse" instead of just "Openverse" to make that more clear? — xaosflux Talk 01:26, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Xaosflux: Fair enough. WordPress Openverse works for me. Bsoyka (talk) 01:32, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 27 September 2023: Directly link to Toolforge tool[edit]

Please change the beginning of the FIST link from [{{fullurl:toollabs:fist/fist.php|doit=1& to [https://fist.toolforge.org/fist.php?doit=1&, and the end from %5Bflickr%5D=1}} Free Image Search Tool] to %5Bflickr%5D=1 Free Image Search Tool] (i.e. remove the double closing braces), so that the resulting link points directly to fist.toolforge.org, rather than going through the iw.toolforge.org/fist redirect. This should be slightly faster for users and also plays much nicer with Special:LinkSearch. Lucas Werkmeister (talk) 17:49, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
