In order to be included in this category, the marathon must be

• an annual event
• in the state of Minnesota
• on mostly paved surfaces (as opposed to trail racing marathons, such as those on the Superior Hiking Trail--these could be included in a broader category, such as "Foot races in Minnesota.")
• certified by USATF as 26.2 miles long
• active (as opposed to discontinued, like the Stillwater Marathon or the Minneapolis Marathon)
