High Court[edit]

Is having the High Court on A Tas government Template the right thing? I was under the impression the high court resides in Canberra???? Wiki ian 05:32, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would argue yes[edit]

Ian, The High Court sits on top of all state court systems as an appeal court as well as being at the top of the federal court system. So the High Court is very relevant to the Tasmanian Legal/Court System. Also as abritrator of the Australian Constitution can impact on the ability of Tasmanian Government and/or Tasmanian Courts to interpret and create law in Tasmania.--TinTin (talk) 00:26, 9 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would argue no[edit]

As I have indicated on a number of other templates, I am wondering why a link to the High Court of Australia is included in this template, and in most (but not all) of its interstate equivalent templates. The High Court is not a state court. It is a Federal Supreme Court established under the federal constitution, and is funded and administered solely by the federal government. It is true that it is possible to appeal from the Supreme Court to the High Court, but it is also possible, in more limited circumstances, to appeal from a state court to the Federal Court or the Family Court. I would therefore suggest that the link to the High Court be removed from this template. Bahnfrend (talk) 16:35, 19 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
