Colour[edit]

Nice template by why was the awful orange colour originally used? The general convention is to use standard Wikipedia blue colours. This is already established in the Bristol wikiproject with {{Bristol}}, {{Bristol Reservoirs}}, {{Education in Bristol}} and {{University of Bristol}} templates. --Simple Bob (talk) 15:41, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ashton Court[edit]

I know it is often associated with Bristol & several of the events listed use it as a venue, however Ashton Court is actually in Somerset & I just wanted to check everyone is happy with its inclusion.— Rod talk 17:39, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If Ashton Court is in then Leigh Woods could be as well.— Rod talk 17:57, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What else should be included?[edit]

How is "Culture" being defined for this? Should sports teams & venues be included? what about churches & pubs?— Rod talk 17:57, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have created a separate sports template but yes by all means include Churches and Pubs Mark999 18:12, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Cinemas?? e.g Vue, Cinema de Lux ect Mark999 18:54, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Could we make a sub wiki project for Culture in Bristol? It could create articles for Shopping places e.g. Imperial Park. Parks e.g. Canford Park and Pubs in Bristol. Mark999 18:59, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

I am not sure why churches should be considered part of culture and why are only Christian places of worship included? I would suggest a separate template for Places of worship in Bristol. Jezhotwells (talk) 13:27, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
For many people (if not me) then churches are an important part of social and cultural life. I am not aware of any articles for non christian places of worship in Bristol - if there are I would say include them.— Rod talk 13:55, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am making articles about Churches in Bristol clearer once I've done this, and look/create articles about other places of worship in Bristol then by all means split in out in to a new template. But we don't want the situation where we have templates for every little thing!Mark999 22:20, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

I think this is a useful template but have a few points for discussion here:
  1. Now the British Empire and Commonwealth Museum is closed and moving to London, what should be done with its inclusion in the template? Removing it doesn't seem appropriate, as it was a part of Bristol's culture (and the history it told still is). Perhaps it should be moved to a "Past attractions" section, along with Ashton Court Festival.
  2. There are certainly a lot of churches, but I guess that's a reflection of the cultural history too. I agree that other places of worship should be included.
  3. I disagree with the inclusion of shopping centres. A shopping centre is one or more buildings forming a complex of shops representing merchandisers, with interconnecting walkways enabling visitors to easily walk from unit to unit, along with a parking area [...], not a place of culture. Many are simply not old enough to have the history of St Nicholas Market (which isn't yet included in the template). I therefore propose removal of this section.
  4. I'm not sure about the use of Colston-Hall-new-foyer-April-2009.jpg, which had a mixed reception. What other images were considered, and how was this one decided upon? One alternative is The Hippodrome, although a closeup of the front at night would probably be preferable.

If there is to be a "past attractions" section then Bristol Industrial Museum should probably be moved into it, with M Shed saying in museums & galleries.— Rod talk 19:23, 20 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
 Done except Colston-Hall-new-foyer-April-2009.jpg alternative. [1] --Trevj (talk) 09:58, 14 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Now that we have the Bristol Choral Society article in addition to the existing Bristol Ensemble, Bristol Schools Chamber Orchestra, Bristol Schools Philharmonia, City of Bristol Choir (and others I'm sure), perhaps we could have an entry for these - which are much more than just "bands from Bristol" or "musicians from Bristol"? --Bob Re-born (talk) 22:04, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've now added Bristol record labels under the new group Creative industries. The intention isn't to list companies themselves by name in the template, more articles about the wider industries. What do people think? -- Trevj (talk) 13:57, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
