This template was considered for merging with Template:Audio and video interfaces and connectors on 27 October 2009. The result of the discussion was "no consensus".

Revamp Needed[edit]

There are many problems with this template that should be addressed if it is going to be used widely.

Links to parent articles (both audio and video) need to be verified/established. This will aid in synchronizing template content
Categorization is sloppy.
1. Categories overlap. If this is intended then connectors should be listed in each appropriate category.
2. Over-categorization creates more work and more difficult reading
3. Categories should reflect how the information is going to be retrieved.
4. Slang used as category names.
Common names for connectors are not being included (e.g. S-Video vs. mini-DIN). Wikipedia is for the masses not just the technophile egg-heads.

S-Video[edit]

S-Video is a video format which uses a 4-pin mini-DIN connector. Since this template is for A/V connectors, it only includes a link to mini-DIN. Atchius 18:41, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

S-Video is a common term used widely by manufacturers of AV equipment to describe the interface and cables. I dare you to go to Walmart and ask for a DIN connector. The vernacular should be accepted. Stephen Charles Thompson (talk) 06:42, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

M1-DA[edit]

Since M1-DA connectors can optionally carry USB signals (sometimes necessary to upgrade firmware on projectors, view [1]) and also analog video and FireWire signals, shouldn't it be in the "Multi" connector category? That is, shouldn't P&D be moved from "Video" to "Multi"?

"Speaker grip connector terminal"[edit]

What is meant by "multi"?[edit]

What does "multi" mean in this table? It's not very clear. Presumably it is not simply to indicate a cable type can be used for more than 1 of the above categories? Or is it about multichannel audio or video? jhawkinson (talk) 04:58, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agree, I should there should be 2 multi, one for the more recent / modern use connector, not eliminating AGP age yet. The other multi probably should be parallel & serail I guess. I personally believe that Video connector should probably be remove from this template and keep this template more closely related to multimedia, since most people are less familiar with how multimedia, broadcasting and other media works. If you want to include Video, there is way too much, (there is serial, parallel, fiber optics...etc.)
