Champions League qualification[edit]

I thought we got two direct spots and one playoff spot as per: 2015 AFC Champions League#Association team allocation. (I doubt our ranking has dropped to sixth?) —Eccy89 (talk) 13:10, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Based on the last few seasons, one direct spot goes to the Champion after the Finals Series, whereas one direct spot and one playoff spot as based on the League performance. So the template is right. The following season might be different as the playoff spot might go to the FFA Cup winner, but that's not for now . Matilda Maniac (talk) 15:23, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, Tildawg's got it in one. We still have three places, but the finals series is seen as our national knockout cup in the eyes of the AFC (this will change soon). The English league for instance shows this with the FA Cup winner's Europa League spot aswell. Until the tournament is completed and the qualifier is known, its not shown. As for the FFA Cup winner spot, I'd make the assumption that this season might not even have the qualifying for the second position. Gallop mentioned that the FFA wants the FFA Cup winners to get the spot and that it was too late for it to be handed out for the 2014 and 2015 FFA Cup winners. Oddly, Adelaide United managed to qualify for that spot anyway (even if it were a year later). Without turning this too much into a message board, I'd think the second position spot would be given to the FFA Cup winners, that way the premiers, champions and cup winners would all have won spots for winning the three major trophies. - J man708 (talk) 20:40, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh wow, you guys wrote a lot for essentially something that I completely mucked up in my head last night. shoulda just wrote - "ummm...grand final winner...." (or even just "...champions") and I would have instantly felt idiotic! re: discussion on FFA Cup winners. If in the unlikely scenario that a non-A-League team won the Cup, I'm not sure how I would feel them representing us at the Champions League...though I suppose if they were able to beat the A-League muppets... PS. I ashamedly came here to delete this discussion hoping that noone had seen it after realising the error of my ways...dang!—Eccy89 (talk) 22:56, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Nup. Your stupidity is here for the world to see. :P Seriously though, it's cool. I doubt the FFA would take the spot away from the NPL side that won it. Imagine if South Melbourne won the cup and then the FFA took the spot from them and gave it to the highest placing team in the A-League (And if that were the Victory)? They'd go ballstic! - J man708 (talk) 23:44, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose if they were good enough to beat the A-League teams, I guess I would be more worried about the A-League! Considering that the spots are determined by performance of the federation in the previous campaigns, the semi-pro teams would surely get carved up (and perhaps we would go sliding down in the rankings...). Though, if they manage to jag a couple of results would be good money for them. Anyone know what the deal is with prizemoney and % going to FFA or the club? —Eccy89 (talk) 03:15, 11 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
