1998 MLB season changes:

• 1998 expansion:
  • Arizona Diamondbacks are enfranchised; join the NL West
  • Tampa Bay Devil Rays are enfranchised; join the AL East
• Detroit Tigers transferred to the AL Central
• In order to primarily continue intraleague play, the Milwaukee Brewers transferred from AL Central to the NL Central so both leagues would have an even number of teams.
