Visakha[edit]

  • ... that the Buddha's chief female lay disciple, Visakha, got the nickname "Migara's mother" for converting her father-in-law, Migara? Source: "Filled with overwhelming gratitude he told Visākhā that from now onwards he would respect her like his own mother, and accordingly he called her Migāra-mātā, which means “Mother of Migāra.”" [1] pdf page 360
    • ALT1:... that the Buddha's chief female lay disciple, Visakha, had twenty children, ten sons and ten daughters? Source: "Visākhā had ten sons and ten daughters, each of whom had a similar number of children" [2]
  • Reviewed: I am credited in multiple DYKs. but this is only my third nomination. The other articles that I was credited with and actually nominated are Dharma Bum Temple and Luang Por Dhammajayo.
  • Comment: I plan on expanding the article some more over the next few weeks, but am nominating now to meet the time limit requirements for DYK. Also, im not sure where to put an expansion, but it has now been expanded over 5 times since August 22.

5x expanded by Wikiman5676 (talk). Self-nominated at 01:49, 28 August 2018 (UTC).

  • Date, size, ref, neutrality, copyvio spotcheck, done. GTG. Alt1 is not very interesting and may have minor neutrality (geneder) issues - we wouldn't say that about a male, usually. Maybe some more interesting alt's can be made that do not involve her being famous because of a male relative? Ping me if mew alts appear for re-review. If none, main hook is I guess ok.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:23, 28 August 2018 (UTC)

Hello Piotrus, you make an excellent point about the gender bias. Sorry about that, I didnt even notice. How about something like

  • ALT2:... that one of the two temples visited most frequently by the historic Buddha was built by Visakha, a wealthy aristocratic woman who was considered his chief female lay disciple? Source: "During the last twenty years of his life, when the Buddha was living at Sāvatthi, he divided his time between the Anāthapīndikārāma at Jetavana and the Migāramātupāsāda, spending the day in one place and the night in the other and vice versa (SNA.i.336)."
