The Infinity Gauntlet[edit]

5x expanded by Argento Surfer (talk). Self-nominated at 18:34, 9 February 2018 (UTC).

Apart from the lack of a QPQ, DYKcheck reckons that not enough has been done. Here is its report. Andrew D. (talk) 18:42, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

  • Prose size (text only): 32228 characters (5370 words) "readable prose size"
  • Article created by 194.254.136.127 on March 9, 2004
  • Assuming article is at 5x now, expansion began 81 edits ago on October 7, 2015
  • Article has not been created or expanded 5x or promoted to Good Article within the past 10 days (855 days)
@Andrew Davidson: I've expanded the lead, but I'm not able to use the DYKcheck tool. Could you please specify exactly how much more work is needed? I was using Word to compare, and I'm seeing a comparison of 5,799 words/35,389 characters in its current state to 1,098 words/6,695 characters on February 7. Argento Surfer (talk) 18:57, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
  • DYKcheck still isn't satisfied but when I run it for the 2 Feb version, it gives a size of 5698 which is less than 20% of the current size that it reports -- 32,960. So, let's assume that's ok for now. As a QPQ has been done now, I'll start a more detailed review. Andrew D. (talk) 14:13, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
@Argento Surfer: Sorry to keep you; it's on my list but I've not gotten to it yet. What I did do was pick up a copy in Forbidden Planet the other day. I'm familiar with the story from other works but hadn't read through the original mini-series yet. More soon. Andrew D. (talk) 16:00, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Cool. Just wanted to make sure it was still on your radar. I'm sure you'll enjoy the book! Argento Surfer (talk) 16:05, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
@Andrew Davidson:, I don't mean to rush you, but the film comes out 4/23/18. I'd like to have this on the main page prior to release. Argento Surfer (talk) 13:40, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
  • @Argento Surfer: Sorry to keep you. We've had some nasty weather in the UK ("the beast from the east") and I got a cold. But Spring is here now so I'll get on it. Maybe we can get this up on the release day...? Andrew D. (talk) 13:47, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
  • I'm glad Spring is happening somewhere. We just got some more snow here last night. Release day sounds good to me, and we even get two shots at it - April 23 is the world premiere, and the US release is April 27. Argento Surfer (talk) 14:04, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

Review

General: Article is new enough and long enough

Policy compliance:

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: No - The hook source is inadequate. It is based on a "vague" interview with a movie executive in April 2017. As the movie has been in production since then and has not been released, that source seems too speculative. Maybe the guy was teasing or maybe there have been changes. We can't be sure of the details until the movie is released. I reckon we need a more general hook with a more recent source. For example, this says that "Avengers: Infinity War is loosely based on the classic comic The Infinity Gauntlet".
  • Interesting: Yes
QPQ: Done.

Overall: We're nearly there -- just a few more references and a revision of the hook, please. Andrew D. (talk) 21:57, 25 March 2018 (UTC)

Could you please specify the paragraph and list entries you think need sources? Argento Surfer (talk) 12:51, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
Argento Surfer, the first paragraph in "Tie-ins", and the last paragraph in "Collected editions and reprints", need at least one citation each. Andrew Davidson is probably also thinking of the table in "Tie-ins" (no source) and the list of characters (2 of 9 characters with a source), though in my mind these (especially characters, which is similar to a plot synopsis which does not need citations for DYK) are lesser issues. --Usernameunique (talk) 15:56, 30 March 2018 (UTC)
  • Yes, that's right. At DYK, the expectation is that every paragraph has at least one citation, whether it really needs it or not. I'm not sure about the list entries but if some of them are cited, it doesn't look good if others aren't. Andrew D. (talk) 16:15, 30 March 2018 (UTC)
  • I cited the tie-in paragraph and hid the collected edition one - I don't have a reference handy for that. The elements of the character list that are sourced are for interpretations or details not found within the work itself. Argento Surfer (talk) 16:22, 30 March 2018 (UTC)
Alt 1 ...that the upcoming film Avengers: Infinity War draws inspiration from the 1991 comic book The Infinity Gauntlet? source
@Andrew Davidson: - How do you feel about my edits to the article and this alternative? Argento Surfer (talk) 13:27, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
The points raised have been addressed and so it's good to go. Andrew D. (talk) 19:10, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
