Stephanus serrator[edit]

Female laying egg
Female laying egg
  • ... that the female parasitic wasp Stephanus serrator (pictured) detects beetle larvae in dead timber and then drills holes in which to lay its eggs?

  • New enough and long enough. Cited appropriately, and free of copyvios as far as I can tell, though I will perform another spot-check later. Image is appropriately licensed. QPQ is complete. I'm not too keen on the hook, though, I'm wondering if we can add the factoid about the drilling taking hours. Vanamonde (talk) 01:50, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
@Vanamonde93: Thanks. How about ALT1? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:35, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
  • ALT1 ... that having located a beetle larva in dead timber, the female parasitic wasp Stephanus serrator (pictured) may take several hours to drill a hole towards it in which to lay its egg?
  • @Cwmhiraeth: Should it not be larvae, rather than larva? Not changing it myself because I'm unsure. Vanamonde (talk) 17:34, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
@Vanamonde93: Larva is the singular and larvae the plural. What goes on inside the log is not well studied but as I understand the situation, one beetle larva is located, one hole is drilled and one egg laid near the larva, and then the wasp searches for another beetle larva. Oh, I know "larvae" is plural: but based on the wording I wasn't sure if the wasp was drilling to a single larva or multiple. Anyhow, I've checked the source, ALT1 is GTG. Vanamonde (talk) 18:59, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
