KMEC-TV

Moved to mainspace by Raymie (talk). Self-nominated at 19:45, 3 April 2020 (UTC).

  • I was wondering if something that could be more relevant for broad audiences could be proposed here. ALT0 doesn't seem to be a hook that could attract non-American football fans and perhaps more specifically Dallas Cowboys fans. ALT1 is cute but isn't spectacular. If nothing else can be said about the station, ALT1 might be good as a "quirky" option, but otherwise perhaps other angles could be looked upon here. • @Narutolovehinata5: Not a bad idea... I did scrounge up an ALT2, but it's a bit dry. Raymie (tc) 16:59, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
ALT2: ... that the owners of Dallas television station KMEC-TV charged that local newspapers did not give their station equal prominence in program listings? p48/49
Honestly that still feels a niche although I admit it's a bit funny. Perhaps ALT1 is really the better option here (personally I think a station shutting down on Christmas Eve of all days sounds unusual), it just needs to highlight the context behind the closing or make the connection between the station being Christian and the Christmas Eve closure more easy-to-get (I'll admit it took me a few reads to get it when I first read the hook). What about... Raymie (tc) 04:16, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
ALT3:... that Dallas TV station KBFI-TV, owned by a Christian ministry, ceased operations for good at 2 a.m. on Christmas Eve? Source: https://www.newspapers.com/clip/47815693/dallas-tv-station-quits/
@Narutolovehinata5: (broke the ping the first time). Raymie (tc) 04:17, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
Sounds good, I'll take another look at the article itself later or tomorrow. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 07:34, 17 April 2020 (UTC)

Article meets DYK requirements, no close paraphrasing found, QPQ done. I can't access the Newspapers.com link so I'm assuming good faith for ALT3's sources (ALT3 being the only hook that I see to be suitable), but it is cited inline so it meets that criterion. I still have reservations on whether or not it meets the "interesting to a broad audience" criterion so I'm requesting a second opinion on this matter. • @Evrik: Any suggestions on a good hook? Because I feel like I've gone every possible direction and nothing is coming up. Raymie (tc) 19:47, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
  • ALT2a: ... that the owners of bankrupt television station KMEC sued local Dallas newspapers claiming that their Sunday program listings gave less prominence to UHF rather than VHF stations? --evrik (talk) 21:15, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
  • @Evrik: I'd be fine with that though I note that they also sued a newspaper in Fort Worth. Raymie (tc) 23:25, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
  • ALT2b: ... that the owners of bankrupt television station KMEC sued local Dallas-Fort Worth newspapers claiming that their Sunday program listings gave less prominence to UHF rather than VHF stations? --evrik (talk) 23:30, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
  • @Evrik: Yes, but remove the word "Sunday". The listings were unequal all week. Raymie (tc) 01:12, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
  • ALT2c: ... that the owners of bankrupt television station KMEC sued local Dallas-Fort Worth newspapers claiming that their program listings gave less prominence to UHF rather than VHF stations?--evrik (talk) 01:19, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to help finish up this nomination. While the alts were proposed in good faith, they really get into the nitty gritty of station operations, which I think is not going to be interesting at all to a broad audience. (It certainly isn't interesting to me.) ALT1 as originally proposed is short, snappy, and very hooky. The only thing more you could add is their quote that it was "the Lord's will" that they closed on that day, but that information has been placed in a quote box and the hook is enough to draw readers in. I can access Raymie's Newspapers.com clips and can confirm the hook fact. Rest of review per Narutolovehinata5. ALT1 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 16:50, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
