Intelligence Community Campus-Bethesda

A building of the renovated Intelligence Community Campus
  • ... that many of the buildings in Intelligence Community Campus-Bethesda were built without any windows, but a 2015 renovation introduced modern glass facades and open, light-filled workspaces (pictured)? Source: [1] [2] for the original state with no windows; [3] for the renovated layout.

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: Yes
  • Interesting: Yes
  • Other problems: No - The wording is a little strange. How about this? Let me know what you think.
    • ALT1 ... that many of the buildings in Intelligence Community Campus-Bethesda did not contain any windows, until a 2015 renovation introduced modern glass facades and open, light-filled workspaces (pictured)?
QPQ: Done.

Overall: epicgenius (talk) 16:02, 19 October 2019 (UTC)

@Epicgenius: ALT1 is fine, I just added a comma. Antony–22 (talkcontribs) 05:39, 21 October 2019 (UTC)
@Antony-22: Thanks. This is good to go now. epicgenius (talk) 13:14, 21 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to promote this, but the hook seems to be telling the whole story and not giving me any reason to click on the page. Have you considered ending it after the first clause? There is a bit of irony in an "intelligence" building not having any windows.
  • ALT0a: ... that many of the buildings in Intelligence Community Campus-Bethesda were built without any windows? Yoninah (talk) 21:43, 16 November 2019 (UTC)
The irony is that, though you'd expect an intelligence building to have no windows, they actually went out of their way to add them later. Maybe something like the following? Antony–22 (talkcontribs) 02:36, 17 November 2019 (UTC)
  • @Antony-22: thank you for the alt. But I'm having trouble finding the hookiness in it; it sounds like a description from Architectural Digest. If you could tell me why it's hooky in the hook itself, it would be better. I might also suggest:
  • ALT2: ... that the Intelligence Community Campus-Bethesda installed windows in its buildings after 60 years of operation? Yoninah (talk) 18:52, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
@Yoninah: I think it's the change from no windows to windows that's interesting; just being built with no window is by itself kind of quotidian IMO. I'm happy for the promoter to choose whichever one they think is better. Antony–22 (talkcontribs) 01:44, 29 November 2019 (UTC)
I think it's the secrecy that's interesting, and noting that the windowlessness was "originally" makes it obvious that has changed. ~ R.T.G 02:31, 29 November 2019 (UTC)
  • Thanks. We need a review of ALT3. Pinging original reviewer @Epicgenius:. Yoninah (talk) 20:24, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
  • ALT3 good to go. But I unlinked secrecy (a common term) and changed Bethesda (changed from a disambiguation page to Maryland). epicgenius (talk) 21:39, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
  • @Epicgenius:@Antony-22: I don't see anything about windows in the sources in footnotes 3, 5 and 6. Neither "classified work" or "secrecy" is verified by these sources. Yoninah (talk) 21:45, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
  • For windows, it's sources 3 and 6 (both on p. 2). Source 3 supports Abert Hall being without windows, and source 6 supports the other two halls being without windows. "Fenestration" is another word for windows, so that's what I looked for, and that's what shows up. For classified ops: source 3 p. 2 says "classified" explicitly, source 5 p. 2 supports Army Map Service, source 6 p. 2 supports Defense Mapping Agency. The latter two are both classified operations. epicgenius (talk) 21:55, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
  • @Epicgenius: Thanks. But isn't "to protect classified work" more hooky than "secrecy"? Yoninah (talk) 10:36, 1 December 2019 (UTC)
  • @Epicgenius: ALT4a: ... that Intelligence Community Campus buildings in Bethesda were originally built without windows to conceal the classified work going on inside? Rachleff, Allison (2011-03-01). "Abert Hall". Maryland Historical Trust. p. 2. Retrieved 2019-10-16.Yoninah (talk) 00:03, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
  • @Yoninah: Either works for me. I like yours better, though, because it shows why the buildings were built without windows. epicgenius (talk) 00:08, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
  • @Epicgenius: thanks. But do we need a new reviewer to sign off on ALT4a? Yoninah (talk) 00:15, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
  • @Yoninah: I don't know. WP:DYKR and WP:DYKSG don't say anything about what to do if the hook has been edited several times. I've never edited the article in question, though. epicgenius (talk) 00:27, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
  • Well, you added "classified work" to the hook, and I expanded the hook wording, so I think we need another reviewer here. Yoninah (talk) 00:30, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
  • Alt4a approved. --evrik (talk) 19:06, 9 December 2019 (UTC)
