Inkpot Madonna[edit]

Inkpot Madonna

  • Reviewed: Älgen Stolta
  • Comment: 15 August as today, reopening of the Cathedral on the Feast Assumption of Mary. Crop image?

Created by Gerda Arendt (talk), Furius (talk). Nominated by Gerda Arendt (talk) at 11:04, 8 August 2014 (UTC).

  • This article is new enough and long enough. I have tweaked the hook and moved one of the references in the article to the end of the sentence to improve the inline citation. I used Google Translate to check some German language sources and found no copyright problems. QPQ has been done and the image is in the public domain. FOR AUGUST 15th, OTHERWISE THE HOOK WILL NEED ADJUSTMENT. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 08:43, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the review and tweak! I am not yet happy with "is on view again", for the venerated lady of the cathedral, addressed in petitions, not just looked at, - but don't know a better term, - word smiths, please. Once we agree on a hook, we will move the nom to special occasions. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:56, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
The ref for the date: the diocese has the days until the reopening on top (4 today), but not the location. If "end of sentence" is to be taken literally (but why should it?), we might get the location first, or make it two sentences.

ALT1 ... that the Hildesheim Cathedral's Inkpot Madonna (pictured), which features a scroll, an inkpot, and a naked Baby Jesus holding a quill, returns to public display today after a four-year hiatus?

I'd like to suggest cropping the image to its upper-right quarter (just for use with the hook). OK? EEng (talk) 21:00, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

Cropping fine! Thank you for the ALT, however it seems longish, and same objection as above: "public display" seems not quite right for a lady, even a wooden one ;) - playing with it:
  • ALT2 assumes the hook runs on August 15 (in Europe, ideally)
ALT2 ... that after an absence of four years, the Inkpot Madonna, holding a naked Baby Jesus with quill in hand (pictured), returns today to the Hildesheim Cathedral? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:16, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

I actually had very much the same idea in the shower. I've substituted a cropped image which I think will look much better on MP. I also made a slight, er, Germanic change to the word order of ALT2 -- you know -- time, manner, place. That doesn't always work in English, but here I think it does. Thank you, - could you perhaps crop a little less, to show a bit blue garment? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:34, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
