Earthbound (1940 film)[edit]

Created by Taylor Trescott (talk). Self nominated at 20:53, 14 September 2013 (UTC).

Modified original hook, as well, for specificality. --George Ho (talk) 17:08, 21 September 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the ALT1, but I think I prefer the original better. Taylor Trescott - my talk + my edits 17:58, 21 September 2013 (UTC)
Can you re-specify the bolded subject (i.e. add back "the 1940 film") for the original hook? --George Ho (talk) 23:59, 21 September 2013 (UTC)
Eh, I think it's hookier if it's not specified. Taylor Trescott - my talk + my edits 00:53, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
  • Length and dates check out OK. However, the "Plot" section of the article is too close to the wording of the "Brief Synopsis" at this source (cited as footnote 1). Also, I find that a significant portion of the rest of the short article consists of direct quotations. Furthermore, While I can tell from the article that critics didn't like the movie, it's not clear why. Rewrite the plot summary in original language; the "Full Synopsis" on that website provides plenty of information that could be used in the rewrite. More information about the plot might go a long way toward explaining those bad reviews.
Original hook fact is verified. I can't confirm the alt hook fact because I can see only a snippet view of the book that is cited. Regardless, neither of these hooks would make me want to read the article. I suggest a variation on the theme of the original hook:
  • ALT2 ... that the screenwriter for the 1940 film Earthbound proposed including a pair of lovers wearing gas masks? --Orlady (talk) 06:23, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, I forgot about this, and will get right on it tomorrow. Taylor Trescott - my talk + my edits 02:00, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
Got it. Taylor Trescott - my talk + my edits 15:08, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
  • The revised article now works for me as a coherent whole. I did edit the plot summary some to reduce some similarities to the structure and wording of the source. I much prefer ALT2 to the other hooks, so someone else needs to re-review this. --Orlady (talk) 02:01, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
  • I re-reviewed the article and find that it meets DYK criteria. The Plot Summary, which is the bulk of the article, seems rather wordy and detailed, but it does not contain close paraphrasing. The other sections ready nicely. ALT2 is by far the better hook; I shortened "writer of the screenplay" to "screenwriter". Article is new enough, long enough, adequately referenced. QPQ done. Offline hook ref AGF. ALT2 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 00:45, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
