Calycopis pisis[edit]

  • ... that Kurt Johnson named a butterfly Serratoterga larsoni after American cartoonist Gary Larson, but as of 2004 it's an invalid junior synonym of Calycopis pisis? Source: [1]: 74  "[Larson's] contributions to entomology by increasing public awareness and making insects a source of amusement rather than fear led to several patronyms in his honor—one for a species of owl louse (Strigiphilus garylarsoni Clayton 1989) and another for a species of hairstreak butterfly (Serratoterga larsoni Johnson 1991). Unfortunately, the latter patronym was later synonymized with Calycopis pisis (Godman and Salvin 1887) by Robbins (2004), but the honor remains untarnished."
  • Reviewed: This is my first nomination. "Exception: If, at the time a nomination is promoted to the main page, its nominator has fewer than five DYK credits (whether or not self-nominated) then the nomination is exempt from QPQ."

  • New enough, long enough, no copyright problems, DYK hooks verified. I like the ALT1 hook. I added the word "butterfly" to the ALT1. Everything all right. Good to go. Excellent work! Snek01 (talk) 11:18, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
