Country in the infobox[edit]

Kawaguchi is a Japanese citizen. However, she represents Russia in international competition. Therefore, the infobox shows the country she represents, not the country in which she holds citizenship. An infobox is meant to be a quick way of getting specific information about a person. The text of the article explains that she is Japanese, but represents Russia. The infobox merely says which country she represents in competition. Furthermore, changing the infobox to citizenship would open up a huge can of worms because it can be hard to verify what citizenship a person holds, and some skaters have dual citzenship, but have only represented one country in competition. I understand your point, however as it now appears the information is misleading (since one's "country" means country of citizenship, or perhaps country of permanent residence - not country one is temporarily residing in or temporarily representing in a sport). Could a word not be added, e.g. "Country Representing"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Junkbakayaro (talkcontribs) 04:30, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see why "Country" would necessarily mean "country of citizenship". IMHO, it just means country, as in the flag and the country they skate under. If you want to suggest changes to the infobox, please do so at Template talk:Infobox Figure skater, so those people who are watching the infobox can contribute to the discussion. :) Kolindigo (talk) 04:41, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yuko KawaguchiYuko KavagutiKavaguti is the Romanization of her name that she has been using since becoming a Russian citizen. Quote from her ISU bio: "Kavaguti has been living and training in Russia since 2003 and received Russian citizenship in February 2009. Her name spelling was changed from Kawaguchi to Kavaguti." Kavaguti is now her preferred spelling. Kolindigo (talk) 19:01, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
