Attention needed[edit]

Is there evidence that children have learnt Yuchi?[edit]

Recently, I edited Yuchi to say that it is extinct. However, I'm starting to get the feeling I didn't research it well enough.

Are there children who have learnt Yuchi as a first language (hence making the language living, like Livonian)? Shibolet Nehrd (talk) 00:22, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I can't directly promise that children have learned it as a first language just yet, though like many other tribal languages, it's well on its way.

There are a few resources that don't seem to be mentioned directly here:

- The Tulsa Library had a Euchee language class going for years, listed on their website at least up until August 14th. The speaker at these gatherings was Brent Dao, who still runs a YouTube channel and Facebook page for a project, the zOyaha School of Language.

- One YLP member is raising her children to be native speaker of Euchee as their first language. She also had an NPR interview on this topic!

- The YLP itself just got a tonnnn of funding!

- The MCN has a program called the Euchee Language Program. It's mentioned in their Education and Training Dept. too! (However, their dedicated webpage was consumed by the MCN revamp. Not sure if the archived site is still accurate, but it could help suggest a fair amount of community engagement.) Onkoe (talk) 18:53, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
