2006 census

York's population isn't independently reported by the Canadian Census anymore...2006 census figure is calculated by summing all of York's component census tracts. Marathone 09:25, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Possible copyright violation

I notice that the article has a copyright violation. Can anyone alert the person who first authored the history section of the article please? Johnny Au 20:26, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Actually, I read the source page and it looks as if the information is from Wikipedia, rather than from Toronto Realtor, since the page includes the disambiguation section, which only works with Wikipedia. Johnny Au 20:30, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
Toronto Realtor's neighbourhood facts may be a mirror of Wikipedia. Please verify this for me. Johnny Au 22:36, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

if the issue is so serious as to put up a huge black and white notice, as well as so serious as to suggest no edits to the page on that notice, and to have the original poster notified, then why drop it if it turns out they are copying from us. Is not Wikipedia and its GNU thingy a copyright onto itself? Is it not therefore them who is violating our copyright, and hence them who should be worried? Nickjbor 14:15, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Removed

hope I did not break any rules, but after seeing this page. http://www.torontorealtor.net/The_Annex/page_1401295.html I removed a violation notice to this page http://www.torontorealtor.net/York/page_1401437.html

it appears to be a mirror. Nickjbor 14:19, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Hatnote

As at the top of this article it says "This article is about the former City of York in Toronto." current census and transport information is irrelevant and belongs in Regional Municipality of York, Ontario or the general article about Toronto.--Chost1010 (talk) 22:52, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Notable Residents section

The other four municipalities that make up the old Metropolitan Toronto have articles that contains notable residents (see East York, Ontario, Etobicoke, Ontario, North York, Ontario, Scarborough, Ontario, and all of Toronto, though Old Toronto does not have its own section as well). It seems that York does not have any, though it should definitely have some. Johnny Au (talk) 18:13, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

We can try looking for them in the notable alumni section of high school articles, such as Vaughan Road Academy, Oakwood Collegiate Institute, York Memorial Collegiate Institute, or St. Michael's College School. Johnny Au (talk) 17:12, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
The only notable resident I know of is Kardinal Offishall. Blackjays1 (talk) 08:47, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
Better search for more, since that section should include more than just a hip-hop artist. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 12:04, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
I found a hip-hop producer named Watts. In an interview, Solitair (a Kardinal Offishall affiliate) mentioned that he grew up in the Dufferin-St. Clair area. Not sure if this includes York, since it's close to the boundaries, but he might have went to high school in the area. Blackjays1 (talk) 12:39, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
As I said before, find more than just hip-hop artists. Make sure that there is a source for them. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 13:39, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
So far, I've only come up with four people who aren't hip-hop artists. I got that info from Category:People from Weston, Toronto, but I'm sure there's more notable people from York, I just have to do a little more research. Btw, shouldn't there be a list of notable residents for the people who live(d) in York? The Scarborough, East York, North York, and Etobicoke articles have that, so I figure the same should be done for York and Old Toronto. Blackjays1 (talk) 13:28, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
I agree. In fact, that is what I had mentioned in my first point. The information regarding people of Weston can definitely be included for York residents. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 16:20, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

According to Dave Devall's article, he is a resident of York and is a world record holder for having the longest career as a weather forecaster. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 22:23, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Motto

I have added the motto E singulis communitas to the infobox, based on the image to the right. I am not sure of the translation, though from my Latin dictionary, it translated as "Of a single community". I would appreciate help from Latinists in this Wikipedia or even from the Latin Wikipedia. Resolved

Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 15:47, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

I also stated that York is the only former municipality in Metropolitan Toronto with a motto in Latin. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 03:27, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

2011 census

Is it possible to add the 2011 census figures for York, Ontario? One can do this by adding the populations of the census tracts that make up the former city of York. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 00:31, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Though there is no specific population figure for York, it does not mean that it is not possible to calculate the population of York. I provided the instructions above. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 17:30, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
Sorry that I do not have the time or access to the data needed to update the page. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 21:52, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
