Widely propagated confusion about Rosetta changes[edit]

If you google regarding the source of the chord changes to this song - because Wikipedia doesn't address it (on this page; it does here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_jazz_contrafacts) - there are multiple propagations of the misstatement that:

"It has been said that Charlie Parker's tune "Yardbird Suite" was based on the changes of a tune called "Rosetta." It has also been said that this claim has been refuted." (the source seems to be https://www.jazzguitar.be/forum/songs/38001-yardbird-suite-roestta-contrafact.html).

The changes are facts that can be determined without refutation or citation. Many if not most non-blues bebop compositions are openly based on borrowed chords, often altered slightly to make them more sophisticated and suitable for bebop improvisation. Yardbird Suite is at least as close to the changes of Rosetta as Ornithology to How High the Moon, and closer than Scrapple from the Apple is to Honeysuckle Rose. (The rule-proving exception is apparently Confirmation).

Wikipedia (given its high ranking in search algorithms) could clarify the situation by showing the similarities between the two chord progressions its this Yardbird Suite entry. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kevintimba (talkcontribs) 06:57, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
