Founder[edit]

From what I understand, the students, who study Malaysian history, were told that K.Lumpur was founded by a Malay guy ! Which is which now ? Prof. Khoo Kay Po, a historian, should enlighten us on this subject. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lightlingmk2 (talkcontribs) 11:42, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that is certainly possible. After all, Yap Ah Loy was the third Kapitan Cina of Kuala Lumpur. If there was no Kuala Lumpur before Yap Ah Loy, what would the first two Kapitans be doing?

Yumao* (talk) It's clear that Yap Ah Loy was not the founder of KL, but I find many sources that claim him as the founder of modern KL —Preceding undated comment added 02:10, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

You'd find that it was Frank Swettenham who turned Kuala Lumpur into a modern looking town. Go look at the picture of old Kuala Lumpur of 1884 - [1] (just a year before Yap died), it's all wood and atap, it did not look like a modern town. It was Frank Swettenham changed it into something different. Hzh (talk) 19:02, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Neither malay or a white guy. As you said yourself, it was the first kapitan Hiu Siew, a mine explorer that was being hired by an indon descent, one of the many self proclaimed royal in selangor at that time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 14.192.208.216 (talk) 16:08, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No, as u said, Hiu Siew was a mine explorer, like 2 other claimed malay 'founders', they were early settlers in the area conducting their own profession/business. Kuala Lumpur is a well developed city, if we talk bout its founder, it meant the earliest crucial contributor that make it possible into today glory, which undoubtedly will be Yap Ah Loy. https://www.thestar.com.my/metro/views/2017/05/05/setting-the-record-straight-the-history-of-kuala-lumpurs-founding-is-not-as-clear-cut-as-some-think/

removing POV tag with no active discussion per Template:POV[edit]

I've removed an old neutrality tag from this page that appears to have no active discussion per the instructions at Template:POV:

This template is not meant to be a permanent resident on any article. Remove this template whenever:
  1. There is consensus on the talkpage or the NPOV Noticeboard that the issue has been resolved
  2. It is not clear what the neutrality issue is, and no satisfactory explanation has been given
  3. In the absence of any discussion, or if the discussion has become dormant.

Since there's no evidence of ongoing discussion, I'm removing the tag for now. If discussion is continuing and I've failed to see it, however, please feel free to restore the template and continue to address the issues. Thanks to everybody working on this one! -- Khazar2 (talk) 01:35, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
