Sorry dude ,but you can do correction ... I took over most of stuff form my friend's site , and I didn't have time to check grammar. With the speed someone is writting Dragonball section we won't be needing battles, so maybe I'll delete it.
You're supposed to write original material for Wikipedia, or take it from texts that are in the public domain. Did your friend consent to his/her material being used on Wikipedia? More importantly, does your friend have the right to do such? Otherwise, you're essentially licensing out other people's material as though it's your own. Battles[edit]

Yamcha vs. Goku[edit]
The first battle Yamcha has is fight with Goku at the begining of Dragonball. He was the first fighter who was able to fight evenly with the young Saiyan. This is when we, for the first time, witness his Rogafufuken attack. Yamcha had advantage in this fight and was about to finish Goku off, but ran away in terror because he saw Bulma, as Yamcha had a fear for girls then. After learning of the Dragonballs, Yamcha starts following Goku and fires a bazooka at them. Goku engages in an attack, catches Yamcha off guard and knocks out one of his teeth. Yamcha runs at the sight of this blemish.
Yamcha vs. Chi-chi[edit]
When Chi chi discovers more people are out there, she tries for the beam on her helmet again. It doesn't work, because Yamcha knocks her out.
Yamcha vs. Oozaru Goku[edit]
After Goku and co. are trapped by Pilaf, Goku sees a full moon, and transforms into a huge monkey. Everyone runs away scared, and Yamcha remembers that Goku's tail is his weakness. He tells Puar to turn into a pair of scissors, and cut off his tail. After that is done, they all rest after the terror they faced.
Yamcha vs. Jackie Chun[edit]
Yamcha hears that this man is very good and tries to attack. Jackie Chun dodges everything and waves his fist in front of Yamcha, with the wind knocking him out of the ring.
Yamcha vs. Invisible Man[edit]
Yamcha was second to fight in this tournament. Although he was up for a fight, he couldn't see who he was fighting. Krillin knew Kame sennin was a pervert, so he took Bulma's shirt off, thus, blood coming out of Kame sennin's nose, and drenching the Invisible Man. He gives up after he is all wet.
Yamcha vs. Myra/Mummy[edit]
Yamcha tries to fight the mummy, but is to weak to fightafter his fight with Invisible Man and traveling. He is soon defeated by a hit in the face, and gives up before he is thrown into acid.
Yamcha vs. Punk[edit]
Yamcha trains very hard for this event. He goes and elbows this man, to declare victory.
Yamcha vs. Tien[edit]
He was the first fighter to make Tien fight seriously. They start evenly but later he is punched in the stomach and brought to the ground. But then Yamcha uses Kamehameha for the first time, but Tien is able to reflect it causing Yamcha to dodge it. Tien then fast flies in the air, finds Yamcha off guard and breaks his leg.
Yamcha vs. Shen[edit]
Yamcha tries to hit Shen, but somehow he avoids every attack, and then hits his head on his pelvis area. Then Yamcha uses Sokidan and knocks Kami off his legs. Then Kami(Shen) compliments his on being able to control his energy that well. Fight continues but Kami is more expirienced and stronger than any fighter and eventualy wins.
Yamcha vs. Saibaiman[edit]
Yamcha's power is obviosly way bigger than Saibaman's ,and he is wery confident and underestimates Saibaman. After some time Yamcha knockes out Saibaman. It seems like Yamcha had won easily, but, it turns out, out of all Yamcha's struggles and attempts, a sneak attack from the Saibaiman, gets Yamcha in a death grip, and the Saibaiman self-destructs, killing Yamcha.
Yamcha vs. Recoome[edit]
King Kai brings Ginew force on his planet to help training Yamcha, Tien and Chaozu. Yamcha takes on Recoome. First he lackes self confidance, but after hearing of Goku's victory over Freeza he cheers up and beats the crap out of Recoome, sending him to hell.
Yamcha vs. Android 20/Dr. Gero[edit]
When Yamcha goes out and looks for the Androids, he runs into them. Not knowing that it's them he gets clamped on in the mouth and gets the energy sucked from him. It doesn't stop there, he then gets punctured. That's right, straight through the stomach. Then he falls unconscious.

Yamcha and co. vs. Cell jr.'s[edit]

When Cell wanted to see Gohan's true hidden power he created mini versions of him to attack Z Fighters. Z Fighters were able to stop Cell jr.'s for some while but at the end they were outnumbered and outmathed.

Yamcha, Piccolo, Tien and Krillin vs. Super Perfect Cell[edit]

In stand off between Super Perfect Cell , Z Fighters tryed to help Gohan, but at the end Vegeta was the one to delever final blow with his full power Big Bang Attack and help Gohan.

No Point[edit]

What was the point of this? And how were the Z-Fighters outnumbered against the Cell Juniors? It was 7 against 7. You also have poor grammar. You also forgot Yamcha's last breif battle with Kid Buu a long side Krillin, Pikkion and Olibu.

Yamcha's baseball career[edit]

Apparently, Yamcha playing baseball was something that Toriyama himself suggested to the Anime production team. According to the Daizenshuu EX podcast #54, this is documented in the Son Gokû Densetsu Anime Guide Book. It's a neat bit of trivia, so I'm going to add a citation. --Son Goharotto 21:16, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seems all right SSJ 5 15:55, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yamcha was on a minor league baseball team. This is shown when the Z team are off looking for the rest of their members in the start of DBZ. He hits a home run out of the stadium and is apparently very good. It is unclear why he never went "pro". But what is clear is that he played baseball and was very good at it. It is very neat trivia. Either add a trivia section and delete the part where it is at now, or keep it the way it is. Maybe spice up the words a bit. --Prede (talk) 00:22, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Elesewhere[edit]

Why do you keep deleting this dōjinshi??? It is a masterpiece ad you will never find such a good DBZ fan Manga (and it is all about one character, Yamcha).

  • Indeed it is a masterpiece. I'm not arguing that. But it's not official, QED, we can't use it. Otherwise we may as well put up links about any halfway-decent fan fiction. Thanos6 21:36, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ok, but couldn't we make an exception, cause this is all about one character Manga? It is rarity. SSJ 5 06:55, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vs. Frieza[edit]

In this article it says Yamcha got strong enough to hold his own against final form Frieza. Is this stated anywhere, or is it just fanon? User:Mr. Blonde 139 06:04, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I am 99.9999999999% sure it's fanon. Granted, it's fanon I wish was TRUE, but... Thanos6 08:18, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That is very "possible" becuase at the end of the series they all progessed a HUGE amount. It is NEVER stated though how high his "power level" is at his strongest point. Freiza says his is "over one million" but that is known as more of an estimate. It was acually closer to 800,000. Can anyone check to see what his last "stated" power level was(if it was even stated?) It is possible that he could hold his own against Frieza at Yamcha's strongest point, but probally "impossibe" to prove enless it is stated direclty, somewhere in the show.Prede (talk) 00:24, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say Yamucha couldn't hold his own against Freeza. I mean, Vegeta got killed by final form Freeza and if Yamucha was able to hold out against Freeza, that would mean he'd be as strong as Goku was when he fought Freeza before becoming a Super Saiyan (and that's unlikely). Judging by the fight on King Kai's planet between Yamucha, Tenshinhan, Chaozu and the Ginyu Force, I'd say Yamucha was only a little stronger than Reacoom. And anyway, after the fight with the Ginyu Force, I'd estimate that Yamucha's power level was only about 40,000. And also, Freeza stated that his power level was over one million in his second form. When he used 50% of his maximum power in his final form against Goku, his power level would reach about 60,000,000, which not even Goku could handle without the Kaio-ken x20. Son Gohan (talk) 10:35, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think there is a bit of a discussion with this in that Yamcha was showen defeating Olibu and another fighter and defeating them with relitave ease in the Majin Buu Saga. And ofcourse Olibu has a very even fight with Pikkion who defeats Super Perfect Cell, King Cold and Freiza in one blow. So yes it is a very interesting issue. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 222.153.175.137 (talk) 06:58, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The making of this article[edit]

How come this article has been cut down like an introduction of him and basically some links same with the Tenshinnan article i read both of them frequently and everything said in them was accurate towards what happened in the show, ok wikipedia don't like people's terms of use for example above "beat the crap out of" then change that don't delete practically the whole article, this article now is basically pointless as it doesn't tell a person looking up yamcha anything about him apart from "he was in Dragonball Manga" WOW come on what was wrong before? noticed wikipedia are combining articles aswell now... no need just getting a bunch of hate lol cheers sorry about my views but surely you can understand :-) (it's especially irritating seeing how good wikipedia used to be Jonoridge 10:30, —Preceding comment was added at 10:29, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Baseball rephrasing and "original content"[edit]

I rephrased the baseball part because how it is written right now makes it appear that it was never shown that he played baseball. Sense he IS a baseball player that should be stated, I can't see how writing it the way it is right now informs people, it actually makes it quite confusing. The article goes from saying what he looks like, and how tall he "IS" to the way the baseball thing is written now. It probaly should be STATED he is a baseball player. Please re-write it in a different way. Make some type of compromise or I'll try to later. As for the "original content", I cannot see how stating what the last episode in Dragonball GT shows us is anything close to original research by someone. It is clearly shown in the cannon episode of Dragonball GT, it probally should be written down, that is a very important peice of information. BTW I am only trying to improve this article I do not mean to harm it in any way. I am trying my best to comprose in how things are written and such, but you just rewrite it anyway. I know your just trying to make the article better too though. Please respond to this, and Merry Christmas. Prede (talk) 05:16, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your re-statement is a bit odd, partially because the link doesn't support your claim. Why this change in the first place? And of the DBGT episode, it was written as WP:OR. I won't remove that again so long as it is said in an encyclopedic tone. Merry Christmas, Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 06:40, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I added the GT cameo info again. You can rephrase that anyway you like, that is fit for wikipedia. Here is a link to Yamcha playing baseball by the way  : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkdMZ1Mfz0s. It's just a video, but it shows him playing. Maybe this scene could be described? That way it makes it clearer that he is a baseball player.Prede (talk) 04:43, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA on hold[edit]

I'm putting this article on hold for GA. It's very close to GA, just has a few issues. First, the web references need to be fleshed out, including author info, the title of the site, the last date it was accessed, etc. Whatever information about the source you can give, give it. Also, the last section seems a bit disjointed at the end. Rather than cramming random info at the bottom, try organizing it into prose and adding information to put it in the right context. Wrad (talk) 01:21, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Some editors have re-formatted the article. How is it now? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 03:40, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would turn the live action movies section into a list of movies he appears in with no prose. Also, the web refs are still incomplete. Wrad (talk) 03:43, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've edited the article ... What do you think? I'll think about what to do with the movies section SSJ 5 (talk) 16:08, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's a GA now :) Wrad (talk) 16:16, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Great :D Do you have any further advice? SSJ 5 (talk) 21:43, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not particularly, just do this to more articles! Wrad (talk) 00:08, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, will do. Thnx for all the help. SSJ 5 (talk) 13:39, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dragonball Z: Elsewhere[edit]

Should this be here? Sense it's a fan made manga if it's not very well know then it probally shouldn't even be mentioned. But if it is very well known then I guess it could be kept. It just seems out of place is all. - Prede (talk) 01:14, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is well known for its great art (and among all Yamcha fans), and its author is a known deviantArt contributor. SSJ 5 (talk) 22:00, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well if you say so.... Anyone think it should be removed? I say if it is well known then it should just stay here, but if it is obscure then to remove it. - Prede (talk) 23:29, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's good reception. Keep it. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 17:19, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If it is good reception then why was it removed? SHould I place it back up? I think I may - Prede (talk) 01:54, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently, they were unreliable sources [1]. I did not know this. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 03:15, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In dealing with reception sections I find it best to use "decent" sources, even if they may be considered "unreliable". There is no reason to follow the book on this, of course the sources should still be pretty good. There hardly ever is a good relaible source for sections like these. I find nothing wrong with those sources, if you want to add that part again. My only problem with it is that if the manga is not well known then it should not be mentioned, but seems to be rather well known. Should we add it again? - Prede (talk) 04:13, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Are you going to notify User:L T Dangerous about it? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 01:15, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well my reasoning is posted here. Is that not enough? - Prede (talk) 02:12, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I guess. SSJ 5 has brought back the content anyway. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 22:17, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you SSJ 5, sorry I didn't do it sooner. - Prede (talk) 03:02, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:IAR ;) SSJ 5 (talk) 14:55, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed Wikipedia:IAR , also useful for our reception section. - Prede (talk) 20:00, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That reception section still bugs me. I'm sorry, but fanfics, in-character blogs and DeviantArt pictures are not notable sources. The section features that old Wikipedia classic, "some say/many fans/some think", which just means "This is what I think". I'm not going to edit it again and have it removed, I don't see how that's worth anyone's time, I'd just love to know who decided DeviantArt was a good source! ----  L. T. Dangerous  (Talk to me!)  23:21, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know what your talking about, first time i read the reception i was like WTF?! (sorry but i really was that surprised) i mean its a manga made by a little amount of people DBZ: elsewhere is no DBZ: AF i mean theyre more fan followed than elsewhere, and this really bugs me out "yamucha fans to instantly dislike Vegeta" i mean what's that? thats the most fannon thing i ever saw in a DB article, my favorite character is Vegeta, and i dont hate Goku just because he beats my favorite character every time, just because some people are to fanboys to hate every mud puddle theyre character steps doesnt mean its wiki-material i mean there's a chi-chi hate site (site not blog) and thats no reason to have it in wikipedia. The only things that i think are true is the comparison with Tien and also him beign the underdog of the series, everything else is fanboy talking come on even babidi has merchandise about him that doesnt count as reception, that counts as guess what? merchandising Hisham-77 6:39 June 27 2008

I agree with LT Dangerous. I can see nothing even remotely reliable in the section. As LT says, there are just weasel words and personal blogs. Folken de Fanel (talk) 11:11, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously this section has a problem. I don't think the "reception" section was invented in order to promote fan-work that I think are not notable. "DBZ elsewhere" is a confidential (and self-published) work that is not mentionned anywhere except in fan forums. I cannot see how it could be used here.
Since some people are ready to edit war to keep the section, I have used all the appropriate tags in order to make the concerned editors aware of all the problems they'll have to fix if they really want to keep it.Folken de Fanel (talk) 13:35, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Flight category[edit]

I did a revamp here and it ended up in categorizing individual Dragon Ball characters who are regular users of the flying skill. Is this category really fit for Yamucha? He doesn't utilize it quite as often as others, maybe two or three times throughout the whole series (including movies he appears in), so I figure this should be discussed. Thoughts? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 04:36, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree, just watch the whole trunks+android + cell saga (also buu) and you'll see him flying a lots of times. At least as much as Tien. Also he used it against the Saibaman as well. SSJ 5 (talk) 16:39, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What do you disagree with exactly? Think it was just a super speed duel with the Saibamen, not flight, and every other Z-Fighter has been floating since Dragon Ball, whereas Yamucha only shows the ability in the Trunks, Android and Cell Sagas. Now I don't recall which movie(s) he flew in, and am unsure of the Buu Saga. Thoughts? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 17:17, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think he should remain in the catergory of characters who can fly. I am pretty sure I have seen him fly a few times. Even if he does not fly often he still flies around, so you mine as well leave him there. The main reason we don't see him fly around too much is becuase in DragonBall Z he isn't a main character anymore. That and the fact he likes driving and walking (etc.) I think. He flies at least as much as Tien does and I am sure he flew when they were looking for Cell and a few times in the android saga. - Prede (talk) 21:37, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, though he prefers to live a "normal life", I'm guessing he would still count as a flier. Probably did use the ability more than three times. Know what? I'll do the edit myself ;) Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 21:41, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Another time he flew around was on the Snake Path or whatever when they were all dead and coming back to earth really fast. I think they were all flying then. BUT if that list is about all anime characters that are fliers shouldn't there be a lot more dbz characters there? Eh o well. - Prede (talk) 21:45, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, they never did hint as to how they got to Kai's planet. For all we know, it could have been a foot race, and Piccolo won it ;) As to your other concern, I have pretty much gotten to every character, though it would be nice if someone double checked. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 21:58, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know how they got to Kai's Planet, but I remember an image of that group all flying back along Snake Path. Although it has been awhile sense I saw this episode. As for the other charcaters being added, thanks. I'll double check it in a second - Prede (talk) 02:09, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like a fan made image you saw. Never did the series depict it or explain what actually happened, it's just anyone's guess. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 02:39, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
LoL then I guess I saw something a fan drew. I never did see that scene in the show, but I figured I just missed it. Your probally correct. I wonder when I saw it, and where... hmm. - Prede (talk) 01:30, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wow , i totally forgot about this... Lord Sesshomaru, during the saibaman fight Yamucha was flying. I mean no one can stay that long in the air and not fly. This was shown during the original series when basic flying was considered a large advantage and other characters had to used ki waves to gat close to them. And to answer the other thing: He flew in the Buu saga in anime filler and when they got to the lookout (Those are which i can remember at the time). So, many times ... If you wish I can upload images ( I don't have the entire series here, only the remastered, but anywayz perhaps)? —Preceding unsigned comment added by SSJ 5 (talkcontribs)
When he battled the Saibaman, it was more speed action and high jumping than clear-cut flight. His bukû-jutsu was actually revealed during the Trunks Saga. And the page could use some more images. Upload away! What pics did you have in mind? The one with Yamucha's corpse would be interesting. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 01:57, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just because Yamucha doesn't fly as much as the others doesn't mean he can't fly! I mean, since the beginning of Z, he hasn't flown much compared to the other characters, like Gohan, Vegeta and Kuririn. Here are the instances where I have seen Yamucha fly -- or as many as I can remember, anyway (haven't seen all the episodes).

  • Yamucha vs. Saibamen. When the Saibamen jumps into the air, Yamucha flies up and follows him. When the Saibamen leaps, Yamucha is seen to be in the air, grins, teleports above the Saibamen and fires a Kamehameha at him before landing back down on the ground. Then he is killed by the Saibamen's self-destruction technique.

Yamucha vs. Turles. Yamucha flies during the Turles movie when he is battling his henchman, at secondly when he, along with the other Z-Fighters, are holding back Turles in order for a battered Goku to buy time for the Spirit Bomb. He might've demonstrated this in the Bojack movie, but I haven't seen that for ages.

  • Yamucha vs. Recoome. I haven't seen this vid for a while either, but I'm sure he must've been in the air at some point when he was battling Recoome, when he defeated him.
  • Yamucha vs. Androids. I saw this picture on the actual Yamucha article, when Yamucha was taking Goku back home to supply him with the antidote after his defeat at the hands of #19. Yamucha is seen holding Goku around his shoulder, soaring in the air.
  • Yamucha vs. Olibu. After being turned into chocolate and eaten by Super Boo, Yamucha appears in an anime filler episode in the Majin Boo Saga, where he fights Olibu in the sky.

I think you see my point now. Son Gohan (talk) 10:50, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I had in mind one where he flies and one from a video game. But your suggestion is good. Yamcha's death could be represented through an image, as death is an often thing in Dragon Ball (but no so serious...) And as for the Saibaman, I agree it was speed action (show-offing the newfound power) but they had to fly to do it and that is my point here =D SSJ 5 (talk) 02:00, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So could you include those images? If you do, make sure that they have the {{non-free use rationale}} (the bots tag fair use images which don't have these). Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 02:45, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I also agree. This page NEEDS a few more pictures. One of him flying, his dead body, and a pic in a video game are all great suggestions. Useing all of them would be great. - Prede (talk) 03:24, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'll post caps in next few days SSJ 5 (talk) 01:22, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Everyone sry about the delay ... I'm having some problems at my college. I'll post soon SSJ 5 (talk) 18:49, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Take your time ;) Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 18:50, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, no rush ^.^ - Prede (talk) 21:29, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your still going to put up the picture(s) when you have the time right? Just wondering, no rush . - Prede (talk) 02:50, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Images are ready, I'll upload them tomorrow ... Its 5 AM here so I'm off to sleep ... Hard day tomorrow ... SSJ 5 (talk) 03:42, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nice pictures man!! Wow!! You totally outdid yourself! That defently improves this article. You did however forget to put the copyright info under one of the pictures, so I added it myself. Thanks again man! - Prede (talk) 02:49, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thnx man :D Glad you like it SSJ 5 (talk) 13:07, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Base Ball Again[edit]

I re-read this article and I STILL think the baseball part is worded oddly. So I made a sandbox and this is what I came up with for that part. As of now it suggestes that he isn't a baseball player, but that the creator wanted him to be one. Tell me if my new wording is good.

New:

Yamucha is shown to be a baseball player in the anime filler material for Dragon Ball Z. This was suggested by the series creator Akira Toriyama.[1]

Current:

Series creator Akira Toriyama suggested that Yamucha would be a baseball player in anime filler material for Dragon Ball Z.[2]

- Prede (talk) 20:56, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I like that rephrasing, go for it. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 20:03, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok cool I'm putting that up there. Thanks ^.^ - Prede (talk) 23:02, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Power Levels[edit]

This is direclty from the Beckett Magazine, this information could be very useful. Perhaps we could use it in the article. It is from Toriyama himself. This is EXACLTY how it is written in the magazine, but taken out of context. It list other characters in between Yamcha multiple times.

Yamcha's power level shortly after the fight with Raditz - 177
Yamcha's power level during the fight with the Saibamen - 1,480

From : Brewer, Mark (2002). The Best of DragonBall Z. Beverly Hills , California: Claire B. Amano. pp. 2–6. {{cite book}}: Unknown parameter |coauthors= ignored (|author= suggested) (help)

- Prede (talk) 21:09, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Where do you suggest it should go? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 20:03, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well if we had more of them I would suggest we just made a section at the end of the artcile, or like a chart with this info on it. But sense there are only two listings, maybe we can just throw his power level in there at the point we talk about that specific scene (like in the Raditz part we throw his power level in there) in the article. - Prede (talk) 23:41, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Or maybe someone could throw in the power levels in the character info box. SSJ 5 (talk) 11:11, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's a good idea SSJ 5. I'm all for that, or any of mine. But I acually like your idea best. - Prede (talk) 20:01, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Seconded. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 04:42, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So how do we do it? SSJ 5 (talk) 02:23, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't quite know. Think {{Infobox animanga character}} has to be edited for this to work. You don't have any idea for a layout? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 02:48, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
SSJ 5, how'd you get it to work on Yamucha's box? I was trying to do the same to Shaman King characters Yoh Asakura and Hao Asakura, but it just wasn't appearing. Thoughts? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 18:20, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ses, you really need to revert you last change to the infobox template, it is completely unneeded as the filed is series specific. There are plenty of auxiliary fields to handle this kind of series specific information so they should not be added the infobox template directly. --Farix (Talk) 20:53, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You need to listen to ppl when they say "discuss". I have said my reasons for reverting, your point is moot. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 20:57, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You've said nothing. All you have done is engage in an edit war over a highly specialized field when an auxiliary field would have done the job. --Farix (Talk) 21:09, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Guess so, but please be more specific in the near future. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 21:17, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
WoW how did you guys add that to the infobox? I allways have problems when I try to do that... - Prede (talk) 23:26, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is a way. I'll figure it out eventually ;) Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 23:35, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I just edited the infobox, and documentation SSJ 5 (talk) 11:37, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Guess I'll try it myself later. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 18:04, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
When I think about it now ... There is a reason why Toriyama stopped giving away power levels after Freeza Saga ... SSJ 5 (talk) 15:25, 17 April 2008 (UTC) Maybe we should put this thing on hold.[reply]
Put what on hold? You only need to list like one or two power levels. - Prede (talk) 00:04, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I know, but still I have concerns about this becoming the hot topic as it always has been ... SSJ 5 (talk) 14:20, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Where did you get the refernce for Yamucha having a power level of 1480 in the saiyan saga? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamesusb (talkcontribs)

If you look I posted where. It's ina dbz Beckett magazine. If you want I'll post the scans I have them saved I think. - Prede (talk) 22:03, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Now that I realize it, the power levels should be cited in "ref layouting". Make sense? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 22:10, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Here are the scans. I'll post the links as I find them. - Prede (talk) 22:20, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a276/mikevamp/scan0003.jpg

Well there yah have it, proof of the power levels. At least as much proof as possible. - Prede (talk) 22:26, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Strange. Wikipedia's power level page which was transwikied to http://dragonball.wikia.com/wiki/Power_level gave different ones. Thoughts? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 22:31, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
". It should be noted that the Daizenshu numbers are sometimes questioned, despite the overall coherence with the original series. Akira Toriyama, the series creator, did not write the Daizenshu" that sums it up for me. Mine were written/aproved by Toriyama himself, or so says the magazine. Then again they could have just printed that, but I HIGHLY doubt they would knowlingly print false information. This is a beckett magazine. - Prede (talk) 22:33, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
These power levels all come from the same source, the 7th Daizenshû. The difference is that the Beckett magazine got them from an english website that had mistranslated some numbers (because these were originally written with kanji).
The real PL for Goku fighting Freeza, Freeza 50%, Gokû SSJ and Freeza 100% are (according to the Daizenshû) respectively 3 millions, 60 millions, 150 millions and 120 millions, not those written in the Beckett mag. Otherwise, except these 4 numbers, all the other PL from Beckett's mag are those from the Daizenshû.Folken de Fanel (talk) 12:03, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I say use only the manga, anime and Daizenshū power levels. And use these pages Folken gave, as well reference that Tenshinhan is an extraterrestrial. Agreed? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 03:29, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And we really need to get this cited to avoid an edit war over the "correct" power level. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 18:44, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The Daizenshû states his PL in action is 1770 (p 72 - by the way, this is the french page numbering). The manga does list his pre-battle power and those of Piccolo and Gohan in volume 18, but unfortunately,it's not very clear to whom the numbers are attributed (Kuririn's is either 1083 or 981). It'll require further verification.Folken de Fanel (talk) 20:22, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The anime revealed which power level belonged to know (this is likely one of those instances where the anime completes the manga). I vouch for that. Thoughts? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 21:10, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You know, we don't know for sure whether these power levels are accurate, since they have never been stated in the manga or anime. Well, Yamucha's power level was 177 after the fight with Raditz, but it never tells us that his power level was 1,480 during the fight with the Saibamen. Either this is just guessing or...some other source that unknown to me. However, I am not completely dismissing it, as these power level are very observational. As for Kuririn's power level being 1083 or 981, I'm thinking it was 1083, because Piccolo's was obviously 1,220 and Kuririn was stronger than Gohan at this time. Gohan was only stronger than Kuririn when he got mad and released his latent potential, and throughout the Namek Saga and onwards, when he had finally learned to fully control his power, making him stronger than Kuririn. In the Namek Saga, I think Gohan's power level was around 1,500 because of his Saiyan genes. Son Gohan (talk) 10:57, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As it has been stated ealier, these PL come from an official databook printed by the japanese publisher of the Dragon Ball manga, and for some parts Toriyama directly contributed to its redaction (though it is impossible to know if he had anything to do with these PLs). Just to show these are not random fan guesses.Folken de Fanel (talk) 13:21, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I thought the Saibamen's power levels was slightly lower than Raditz's. In the Saiyan Saga article, it is/was stated the Saibamen's power level was 1,200. 1,200 was not "slightly lower" than 1,500, Raditz's supposed power level. Plus, Piccolo, who was the strongest Z-Fighter in the Saiyan Saga apart from Goku, had his power level read as 1,220 (see Dragon Ball Z, volume 2). That would mean Piccolo would be weaker than a Saibamen, and that's highly unlikely. So, Raditz's power level cannot be 1,500, therefore, the Daizenshuu is wrong about that and didn't take into account what was really said. 92.13.74.141 (talk) 11:32, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is probably a typo because in an other section, the Daizenshû states that that the Saibaimen are 1200, "which matches the power of inferior warriors like Radditz".Folken de Fanel (talk) 13:30, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edits[edit]

I think that with this we successfully completed the Creation and conception part of the article. I'm gonna try and expand the other sections a bit too ... But, I am sad to inform you that I can not find the same info for Tenshinhan as there are no traces of him anywhere before Dragon Ball (I found this info searching for info for Tenshinhan page) SSJ 5 (talk) 22:13, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

EDIT: Ok, now I've done some work on reception part ... I'll do the same tomorrow on Tenshinhan article, now I'm too tired ... SSJ 5 (talk) 03:19, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think I've done some good work on the reception part ... Sesshomaru, Prede, others... Critics? Thoughts? Opinions? SSJ 5 (talk) 21:22, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could use a tweak or two. I'll take care of it later on tonight, if given the chance. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 21:28, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I followed conception of reception sections in other Dragon Ball and some Naruto characters articles. So, I don't think that anyone can say that its non standard. And the sources are reliable. SSJ 5 (talk) 21:31, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

WTF happened to the images? They were really good for the article... I didn't even get info on its deletion (or a warning)!?!? SSJ 5 (talk) 02:03, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Was wondering that myself. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 21:28, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
They are still here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Yamucha_FlyJ.PG.JPG and here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Yamucha_Death.JPG ... I can use them here, but not on the article page SSJ 5 (talk) 21:38, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Any idea why they were taken off? IIRC, they had proper rationale tags and fair use licenses. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 21:44, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea whatsoever... Prede and I worked on the tags and fair use ... I even added some info yesterday, but to no avail. Its like someone is deliberately doing this ... SSJ 5 (talk) 21:49, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You mean a corrupt administrator? We might have to let User:Caribbean H.Q. know about this. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 21:55, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it is a possibility ... Wikipedia dealt with corruption and power abuse before ... If you wish we can brief him on the situation. SSJ 5 (talk) 22:02, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Do you want to update him on the situation or should I? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 05:24, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here lies the problem: [2] The anonymous editor replaced all instances of "Yamucha" with "Yamcha" and, inadvertently, removed the images.--Nohansen (talk) 05:31, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Nohansen, I would have never figured it out. Though when did you know to come to that conclusion in the first place? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 05:39, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just went through the article's history to find when they were removed. Also, you can see SSJ 5's working links to the pictures (Image:Yamucha_Death.JPG) use "Yamucha", while here it says "Yamcha".--Nohansen (talk) 05:47, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Now that that's settled, how about we get rid of the lead image (which has no source information) and upload it with a better one? Weren't we going to get one of him in combat with Saibaiman, as discussed here? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 06:51, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wow thnx Nohansen ... As Sesshomaru said it would have never crossed our minds ... Usually its the simple stuff that is hardest to unveil ... As for the image I think its ok, but if you wanna change it ... Fine by me. SSJ 5 (talk) 12:35, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
SSJ 5, would you happen to have a few saved pics? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 22:56, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have any right now, but I can upload some tomorrow (Its 2:30 AM here) ... Anything specific I should pay attention to, while taking screenshots? SSJ 5 (talk) 00:32, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The scene after he is killed by the Saibaiman would be nice. Or did you have something in mind? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 01:00, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know how good would it be for the lead image ... I was thinking DragonBall Yamcha (from Budokais' or something). SSJ 5 (talk) 02:08, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, the Saibaiman one wouldn't do as a lead. Your idea is better. Can you upload the Dragon Ball pic tomorrow? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 03:30, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have in mind a great image from tenth anniversary movie, but I just realized that I don't have Photoshop or anything similar installed currently ... I'll get it tomorrow and then I'll upload it. SSJ 5 (talk) 19:30, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Go for it ;) Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 19:11, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done :) Thoughts? SSJ 5 (talk) 19:26, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not bad man. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 00:57, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad the picture thing is all settled and fixed now. I logged on and it was all messed up. Then I take a brake from Wikipedia, come back a few weeks later and it's all fixed, plus the page looks better, and has more content. Nice job guys! I'm glad everything's back. Nice new lead picture, although I liked the old one as well. - Prede (talk) 02:50, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Delisting as a GA[edit]

I stumbled across this article and noticed how nearly every reference was from a fansite or other not reputable site. I don't want to take this article off GA, so I though I'd notify the ones working on it and see if they could fix anything. If not, then I don't think there is another choice, though some information can easily be left out because it isn't too important. My problems are with references 1, 2, 4 (it's a dead link), 6, 8 (another dead link), 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 (dead), 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 (dead), 21 (dead), 33 and 34 are Wikipedia pages, 35, 36, 37, 40, 42, 44, and 53. 5 and 7 are about the tea, but I don't know their reliablity, and 10 is about the Journey to the West Legend, but isn't reliable or relevent. I don't know how reliable 38 is, as it is a blog, and how reliable 43/Music Japan is. I may or may not help out because I'm pretty busy as it is, but I'll if I find the time, I'll see what I can get. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 20:41, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll do what I can during the week. I have some exams. Music Japan is absolutely reliable. Journey to the West Legend is relevant but I can find another source. And the blog is official DB movie blog ... So ... SSJ 5 (talk) 19:45, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If the blog is official, I don't see why you shouldn't use it and if Music Japan is realiable, go ahead. The Journey to the West can be relevant, but not the way it is used now. Saying Yamcha is most liekly based on so-and-so and including a reference to that site doesn't really prove the point. Nice to see you'll be working on it, though:) WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 00:06, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Always glad to help out SSJ 5 (talk) 01:32, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll start tomorrow or the day after tomorrow SSJ 5 (talk)
First thing I'll have to find manga sources for everything. Might take a while. SSJ 5 (talk) 23:44, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's fine:) I don't want the article delisted and as long as someone is working hard on it, I don't see why it should have t be. Good luck! WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 00:36, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. I'll give my best. The hardest part is finding the complete manga. SSJ 5 (talk) 01:56, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wooh ... I finally got the whole thing. SSJ 5 (talk) 00:20, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The first phase is finished ... Now for the second (finding the exact chapters.). Could use some hlp here. SSJ 5 (talk) 18:27, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Great job so far! I don't own any Dragon Ball manga so I can't help you there, but I'd suggest making a section on Talk: Dragon Ball and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anime and manga. People there should be able to help, and probably correct some of the links as well. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 18:32, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also, just wanted to point out the imdB isn't considered a reputable source. Luckily, for voice acting we can usually find everything on Anime News Network. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 18:45, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok then. I'll change it. SSJ 5 (talk) 18:58, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll move on after the 17th and complete this (Remove myfavgames and dbzgtlegacy refs ...). I have some personal matters to attend to. BTW I think that we can keep the hair guide as it references the chapters. SSJ 5 (talk) 00:37, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You've been doing a great job! It's nice to see you're dedicated. For the hair guide, we can't use it because it's from a fansite and is more like original research, comparing the hairstyles when no official reviewer has. However, if you wanted to show changing hairstyles, you'd need a picture of him in different times of the series. (though the fansite one looks like the images had been altered for whatever reason; probably because the scanning/resizing may have messed with the lines) WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 00:46, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm back ... Continuing tomorrow. SSJ 5 (talk) 01:04, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Again I had to halt this. My friend is going to the army and we are throwing him a two day goodbye party (its traditional in my land), so I haven't had much time. But after the weekend I'm really back. SSJ 5 (talk) 01:56, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think I've done the majority of the job. Few more edits and it should be ok. SSJ 5 (talk) 14:48, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm back ... The finishing touch will be done by sunday (Greenwich + 1). SSJ 5 (talk) 20:15, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So ... What do you guyz think? SSJ 5 (talk) 15:40, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article, as far as setup, looks great! When it comes to references:

  • The last one referencing the DBZ card needs to be changed (it's just a fansite). This may be a little difficult to find, though.
  • The Harmony Gold US Dub reference (ref 1) needs to be fixed
  • The line saying that Yamcha is most likely based on She Seng should be just flat out removed (it isn't fact and a reputable source didn't make a comparison)
  • The line "A likely design prototype for Yamcha was the main character from Mr. Ho, a one-shot manga drawn by Toriyama. It featured a Yamcha-like character as the protagonist, and was set in Red Ribbon Army Saga-like setting.[9]" which is original research (that site is giving out free manga scans, anyway) needs to be removed as well as "Sa Gojō is the name of Sha Wujing when translated from Chinese into Japanese-language." That comparison is pretty much OR.
  • Get rid of the DBZ hair style guide; if it's referenced with chapters already, then there isn't a need to include a fansite.
  • Remove references 27, 36, 41, and 42. They link to Wikipedia pages.
  • 46 isn't needed because it's only a translation.
  • IMDb isn't a reliable source, so a new refs for 48 and 56 are needed
  • Remove 51 (it's from a fansite, and cannot be counted as reliable)
  • As for 54 and 55, it seems to be a fansite, but I really don't know what to do with them.

Unfortunately, this will cut down on the concept and creation section; there doesn't seem to be much on him, other than fan speculation. The article has made some great improvements, though, and I really commend anyone (especially SSJ) who worked on it. Many of the problems I listed are about removal rather than replacement. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 16:09, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

51 is daizex. Its been decided that it is ok, if no substitute is available. 54 is a official movie blog, it has official scans and translations. 55 is music japan. It absolutely reliable. 46 ... ok .... 27, 36, 41 and 42 will remain but not as wiki pages ... They are not refenrences to the pages themselves but to the movies! I thought you understood that. The line "A likely design prototype for Yamcha was the main character from Mr. Ho, a one-shot manga drawn by Toriyama. It featured a Yamcha-like character as the protagonist, and was set in Red Ribbon Army Saga-like setting.[9]" which is original research (that site is giving out free manga scans, anyway) needs to be removed as well as "Sa Gojō is the name of Sha Wujing when translated from Chinese into Japanese-language." must stay! Mr. Ho is a prototype and as such I feel it needs to remain there. It is original research, but none-the-less it should be ok??? And thx for the appreciation ... But I worked really hard on this and Wrad said it was good enough to be a GA, and now I have to do even more work on it? SSJ 5 (talk)
Listing Music Japan was an accident. As for the other part, it is original research, it isn't referenced, and we have no idea if Mr. Ho really is the prototype. Often, authors will make characters that overlap in looks, but it doesn' always mean anything. If you find a source that says so, go for it. As for Daizex, I looked at the page and cannot find where it says anything about them being compared in popularity and power. They do an attack together and the page mentions that they are fan-favorites, but it doesn't mean they are often compared on that level. Right now, I'm not that busy and will try and help find some references. However, others will be more difficult, especially the a ref for the card, so it may take a bit. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 16:39, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thx ... I'll go through my Shonen Jumps to try and find some refs, as well as some web refs. SSJ 5 (talk) 16:40, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I rephrased the sentence. Hope it can stay now. SSJ 5 (talk) 16:16, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The problem isn't the phrasing, but the original research. We can't say "it might" or "it could have", etc. For example: "Yamcha is most likely based on Sha Wujing, also known as Sha Seng, from this novel.[8] Both are powerful bandits (Yamcha from a sandy desert, and Wujing from a sand river), who eventually change their ways and help the heroes on their quest." The source is a fansite, not even able to be certain who Krillin represents, and we don't know for sure. No reliable source made the connection, either. "Yamcha has resemblance to some of the characters from Akira Toriyama's earlier mangas. The characters of Mr. Ho [9] and Tsukutsun Tsun [10] , are a good example of this. The former was featured in one shot manga Mr. Ho, while the latter was featured in Toriyama's longer running manga Dr. Slump." Unless stated by a reliable source, it means nothing. Many artists have characters that resemble each other and it has no weight on the concept/creation of Yamcha. "Sa Gojō is the name of Sha Wujing when translated from Chinese into Japanese-language." Seems more like a fan making connections...Yes, while it seems he probably was based off of Gojo, we do not have any reliable claim that draws a comparison, nor does the artist come out and Yamcha was based off of him. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 19:22, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
"Sa Gojō thing is referenced ... But I'll have to go through the rest of my S. jumps ... Tomorrow I'll get them back and then I'll be able to give something more on this topic.
You mean him being related to Gojo? If that's the case, it'd be great if you could add that ref! I own a grand total of 1 Shonen Jump magazine, so I usually miss those interviews. And what I meant about the Sa Gojo thing was that it had no real connection to Yamcha, unless it's like a fan making connections. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 01:21, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I own about 120 (or more, can't really tell how much) Shonen Jumps, both Japanese and English (Both my dad and I read it) ... You can see that I referenced the Gojo being Yamcha (Toriyama's interview from 1986) SSJ 5 (talk) 13:08, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wow...Can you or your dad speak Japanese as well? (random question) The main goal right now is confirming that Gojo from the Chinese legend is the basis for Yamcha. While it deffinately may be so, we still need some proof. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 20:16, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I speak pretty poor japanese for now ... My dad is much better ... OFC I can cite the interview where Gojo is mentioned here if needed? SSJ 5 (talk) 23:37, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good luck on improving your skills! I hope to speak it fluently, but as of now, my skills are horrible and I'm trying to help them with translating manga I imported. Anyway, do you mean citing interviews where Yamcha is directly compared to Gojo (from the original legend)? If you could find any--or, for that matter, any reputable reviews that mention the connection--it'd be great if you could add them in! WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 00:22, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Its the reference No. 10 Firstly he (Toriyama) goes on about how dragon boy is based of JttW as well as dragonball ... And then at one point he states: "and here Yamcha is Gojo, the river monster." ... SSJ 5 (talk)

Was he talking about Gojo from the legend, or Gojo from the Dragon Boy manga? WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 19:57, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He was referring to the manga ... But earlier he said that he based the manga on the legend. I can quote question and answer if necessary? SSJ 5 (talk) 00:47, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've attempted to incorporate the legend into the section...It's a little messy, but as far as I can see there is no original research. Also, the section can use his name's kanji and his speech pattern. Do you know what pronoun he uses for himself, what pronoun he uses toward others or specific people, and if he has any speech quirks? We could make a pretty good section on that. I had to remove the paragraph about how he looks like other characters; it seemed to POV. However, we can refill it with speech patterns. It'd be a great help, though, if you could fill in the section as it is now with references. I don't have the magazines, so it'd be kinda difficult for me:) WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 01:10, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Cool! I will ref the section. As for speech pattern, I dunno for now. I'll look into it. You could do the same ^^ SSJ 5 (talk) 12:50, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll check it out ^^ I think I'll also make a new section eventually; now that this article has pretty much been saved from a GA delisting, it might be a good idea just to go through each section and fix the more minor problems. This will help, in case anyone later on feels that the article should be delisted. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 20:01, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reassessment[edit]

I am reassessing this page for WikiProject Anime and manga's Tag & Assess 2008 and after doing a thorough read of this page (and the archived page of the article when it archived GA status) and I'm reassessing it to a B-class for the following reasons.

  • While there are some third-party references, there are a few sources that do not meet Wikipedia's criteria for reliable sources. Some appear to be blogs or fansites. (Good article criterion #2)
  • The intro (which made sense when it received GA has deteriorated to the point where it is confusing, I would recommend reverting it to it's January 30th 2008 state. (Good article criterion #1)

Feel free to ask me if you have any further questions. Thank you. --Kraftlos (talk) 11:20, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is that all? And name the third party references please. SSJ 5 (talk) 14:57, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
References 1, 6, 7, 44, 46, 48, 49, 53, 54, & 62 by my estimation would not qualify as reliable sources. I'd also say that 21 is questionable because it appears to be fan-contributed. --Kraftlos (talk) 02:29, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Music japan is absolutely reliable, and I've said that 1000 times. Its a magazine in japan. There is no 62. We can easily replace IMDB. We agreed that Daizex is ok, when no replacement can be found. Anime news network one most used site for refing anime. 54 is Amazon ... I mean, what more to say. As for the movie, I'll find the same thing on official movie blog. I'll fix things later. I'm busy currently. SSJ 5 (talk) 00:13, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The numbering changed since I listed those references, please refer to this revision [[3]]. I didn't recognize Daizex and and Music Japan looked shakey. I didn't list ANN or Amazon, but perhaps that will be cleared up when were looking at the same page. DBthemovie.com clearly states on the about page that "We are not affiliated in any way with the creators or publishers." [[4]] so this cannot be used as a source. TempleOTrunks is a fansite.
Don't worry, there's no hurry. Let's take the time to put this article on a sure footing. --Kraftlos (Talk | Contrib) 07:47, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm back ... I'll be starting in a few days ... Do you have any instruction I should follow? SSJ 5 (talk) 23:00, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome back. I'd fix up the intro (or reverted to the version when it was first listed as GA); and try to get some reliable third-party coverage, check out the links I mentioned. I'd use the link to the revision I listed below because the numbering changed right after I listen them. If that is taken care of, we can re-nominate the article. --Kraftlos (Talk | Contrib) 00:59, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I'll try to start in the next couple of days. SSJ 5 (talk) 00:09, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If I take out the part from creation section, about the creation of Yamcha's name, would it be too small then? I collected some material on creation but I don't know how much good will it do, since I still can't find enough reliable sourcesSSJ 5 (talk) 02:48, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Everything in the article needs to be verifiable, you should be able to find where the info came from. If you can't you could go through the page history and find out who added the bulk of the information and see if they know. --Kraftlos (Talk | Contrib) 08:54, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested Merge[edit]

I suggest that this page be merged with List of Dragon Ball characters. The article only has a limited reception section, and has very few appearances in other media. The character also becomes a background character later in the series, with little actual involvment with the plot. DBZROCKSIts over 9000!!! 18:31, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Support per nomination. WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 20:41, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I support it. Shouldn't it just be merged without a discussion? I usually do that with no problem. DragonZero (talk) 23:05, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion is important, especially when merging articles. DBZROCKSIts over 9000!!! 01:17, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge per the above ;) Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 23:23, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge per above. I think I suggested it when I reassessed the page (guess I didnt'), but yeah, this isn't a notable topic as far as I can tell. --Kraftlos (Talk | Contrib) 06:57, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Well ... I've worked on this article for like a month, collected a bunch of info, some of which was deleted by some idiots, and now its up for a merge? Now that Yamcha was featured in the live action movie there is probably much more reception info (if someone would actually do something to improve the article instead of just trying to merge it, which seems to be only thing people are doing around here). We've been over this some while ago and its was decided that it should remain as it is. But someone always brings it up, and it can't last forever. I am largely disappointed in Wikipedia and its members. I'm not going to work on any DBZ related articles in the future, and will just intervene in extreme cases SSJ 5 (talk) 19:18, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment WP:EFFORT is not a valid reason to keep an article. Yamcha has no out of series appearances, which is one problem, as well as very little reception data. DBZROCKSIts over 9000!!! 21:32, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • I'm aware of that, that's why I don't care about Wikipedia for a while now. SSJ 5 (talk) 23:01, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
        • A merge isn't a death sentence for this topic, and if reliable third-party sources are found that are sufficent for a stand-alone article, then it should be no problem to recreate the article. Regardless, the data will be kept in the page history. --Kraftlos (Talk | Contrib) 10:19, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support merge If I'm not mistaken, the only reason for keeping this during the massive mergers was that the article was GA. It is not GA anymore. If there is no coverage by reliable secondary sources and impact in popular culture, then this shall be merged. The character himself tends to fade away as the series progresses. --LoЯd ۞pεth 18:36, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Baseball Player[edit]

Can we edit this article to include he was a minor league baseball player? There are references all over the place to him playing baseball but not that he was a minor league player. It is confusing. I made an attempt at this but was told I edited the section for the manga. Where is the anime section then? I think it needs to be outright stated he plays minor league baseball, then the rest of this article makes much more sense. Prede
