Yallourn[edit]

Wasn't Yallourn North the 'replacement town' for Yallourn when it was removed for the Yallourn open cut mine? Conufsed 01:44, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yallourn North was around before then[edit]

Uh, no not really. Yallourn North existed long before Yallourn was 'disbanded'. It was originally for the workers at the open cut mine know simply as the "Brown Cole Mine", and the township was (imaginatively) given the same name. This was just after the township of Yallourn had been established for the workers at the power plant. It's name was changed over 50 years ago (around 1950 maybe, I don't know the exact date) to Yallourn North, after the township of Yallourn.

When Yallourn was removed, some facilities were moved to Newborough, like the old clinic building, and some might have been moved to Yallourn North, (I can't think of/don't know any). Yallourn North did have a swimming pool built next to the school as part of the 'package' for the workers were dislocated. So no, Yallourn North is not the 'replacement town' for Yallourn. In fact, for many locals I know, Newborough is more the 'spiritual' home for the continuation of Yallourn (there are many organisations there that are named after the old township: a golf course, soccer club, bowls club, (until recently a clinic), etc.)

Sorry if this was a bit of a rant, lived there a while, and know I can't just put any of this in the article as it's original research. Hope that clears it up though.

Say, while I'm at it, this town does have significance historically for the area although it's quite small today (it has it's own museum). Would it be acceptable to add content referenced from a book not available on the internet, namely from the "Old Brown Cole Mine"? --The Mackstar 15:03, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely, sources from books are more than acceptable, as long as publishing information is available for others to check. Cheers, Mattinbgn\ talk 20:42, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks for the confirmation. Now I just need to get my hands on a copy & relate the relevant info. May take a while, but I'll try to get to it. The Mackstar 13:36, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

I'm wondering what sort of photos would be be of most use for this article? I could take some myself and contribute them under CC or some other 'copy-free' license. I'm heading back there to my parents today, will be there a few times in the next few weeks - so a soonish reply would be appreciated. =) The Mackstar 21:53, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not a part of Baw Baw[edit]

For some reason this page is appearing in the "Localities in the Shire of Baw Baw" section. Obviously Yallourn North is not in Baw Baw, but I don't know how to edit that section. Could someone with knowledge of how to do that fix that please?
