Does this party still exist?[edit]

This article is written in the present tense and the WSP is listed in the template of current NZ political parties. But the List of political parties in New Zealand page says it existed until 1996. I've been trying to work out which is correct and have found the following:

The party is not a registered political party (currently, have not found evidence of past registration
The party has not contested an election (list or electorate) in over 20 years.
The party's website linked in this article does not describe any action the party has taken or plans for future actions. The site is devoid of any dates that might have suggested when the party was active. The website design appears old - it is a Geocities page with a broken visitor's counter and only seven short pages.
A Google search uncovered another page which might relate to the party - http://www.worldsocialism.org/nz/. This website mentions a party conference in 2004 (though little details are given) and that as of "Summer 2008" radio broadcasts had resumed. These are the most recent events mentioned with in the page. (In my opnion, both this and the Geocities page appear not to have been edited in a long time.) However, it appears that the PO Box listed on that site is still registered to the party.
I search news site Stuff for "World Socialist Party", both with and without quotation marks. I found no articles mentioning this party.

In short, there isn't any good evidence this party still exists. Unless anyone objects, I'll rewrite this article to reflect that, as best as possible given the lack of information. HenryCrun15 (talk) 13:26, 9 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Changed back from past tense to present tense. The party held a meeting on 51 Weymouth Road, Manurewa on 6 August and 3 September as minutes were circulated to companion parties internationally.--Darrelljon (talk) 13:49, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

When did this party first contest an election?[edit]

This article says that "In 1971, the party contested its first parliamentary election". The source cited for this statement says the same thing—but there was no general election in 1971, nor any by-elections. Were, perhaps, one/some of the 43 independent candidates at the 1972 New Zealand general election affiliated with the World Socialist Party? Moreover, the page for Hutt (New Zealand electorate) gives a World Socialist candidate for the 1946, 1949, and 1951 general elections. Is the Hutt candidate misattributed, or does the party has a much longer electoral history than stated? Axver (talk) 07:54, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
