Errors in the data?[edit]

I have a strong suspicion that the data is messed up. Look at the number of patents in force in 2010 vs 2007. Huge swings - or else Japan and the US are in the wrong positions.

Further http://www.wipo.int/ipstats/en/statistics/patents/ seems to show that the data on this page is messed up

yes the data generally seems out-of-date or wrong, see this PDF for recent patent figures --Kai Carver (talk) 21:01, 28 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

VANDALISM There has been vandalism obviously in the list of countries by patents granted in 2011, with North Korea nº 14 and Mexico nº 10.--83.32.84.197 (talk) 13:31, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Checklist for Updating this Page to the data on wipo(ref no 2,3) as of September 2016 (data will be up to 2014 only)[edit]

Since the number of tables and the amount of data to be updated is exceedingly large, but still noteworthy, one person cannot simply make all edits, so i'm making a small checklist as to what tables have been updated, when others are updated please add them to the list.

Updated(these are done as of sep 2016):-

  • Patent applications for the top 10 offices,2014
  • Patent grants for the top 10 offices,2014 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daiyusha (talkcontribs) 17:52, 8 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Updated data available[edit]

Hi, Just a suggestion … a lot of the information on the article page is supplied from World Intellectual Property Organization publications which are all released under CC-BY 3.0 licence. The 2020 data has just been added to the English version of this page. This updated information can be accessed from the World Intellectual Property Indicators 2021. The World Intellectual Property Indicators publications are an acknowledged source that provides historical data and is a good place to source data in the future. This might be a good place to start if thinking about improving this article and keeping the information updated.

Because of the licencing, any information, text or images in these reports can be copied directly from the newsletters or reports using these guidelines.
