Orphaned references in Women in Africa[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Women in Africa's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "hr":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 02:58, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

More Information for Sexual Harassment and Gender Violence Section[edit]

I found a couple of articles that I'd like to use to add some information to the Sexual Harassment and Gender Violence section of this article. I have listed the references for both articles below.AEP2021 (talk) 21:58, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bibliography:[edit]

Possible Edits[edit]

This article could be stronger if it provided a more holistic view of gender based violence against women in Africa because the current article only mentions Benin and Ethiopia. In addition, the sections regarding women's education and healthcare could be substantially strengthened through more sources. I've posted a few sources regarding women in Africa on my user-page, so please check it out. --Cl115 (talk) 14:31, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Possible Revisions[edit]

The current "Women in Africa" page is heavily focused on the history of women in Africa, and I would like to add a more balanced approach representing the experiences of women in Africa. Specifically, I want to add more detailed information regarding the social and cultural barriers that women face in gaining education, gainful employment, roles in politics, and issues such as gender-based violence. In addition, I want to add more statistics about gender inequality and add more balanced coverage representing all of the regions of Africa. In general, I also want to go through the article and make sure everything is grammatically correct and the sections flow smoothly together. I also plan on updating the contents so that it's organized by region of Africa. Please go to sandbox for more information. Any comments and feedback is also much appreciated! Editing Lead[edit]

I'm planning on editing the lead and adding more links to other pages. I also want to link from other pages (Gender Inequality, maternal mortality, HIV/AIDs) to Women in Africa. I've also added a paragraph on Gender inequality and linked it back to this page to increase traffic and visibility Cl115 (talk) 06:01, 11 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Peer review[edit]

Hi Christine! I'm really impressed with the work you've done on this article. A lot of your formatting and organizational changes have really improved the clarity and flow of the article. Your added introductory paragraphs are also a great tool to set context for each section's content and your addition of female genital mutilation is also significant. In terms of potential revisions, I would consider keeping 'Notable women' as its own section, as it might be limiting to put it under 'Workforce participation.' Lastly, it might be helpful to substantiate certain subsections with a few more citations or sources, although you've done a great job with citing important and appropriate sources throughout a lot of your contributions. Peer review 2[edit]

Christine, I also am very impressed by your contributions. I think you added some great material to the page, especially in the education and the workforce participation sections. I think the article flows well structurally, but if you were to further divide up some of the sections by regions and countries that could help with organization (the sections that you already have divided look great). I would also consider adding some more women in different fields to the "notable women" section, and also some more information to the "gender-based violence" section if you have time. Overall, I think you really improved this article and your contribution looks good! Nicolekoonce (talk) 00:58, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Peer Review[edit]

Cl115,

You submitted a high-quality contribution to the topic of women in Africa, ensuring an easier to read, comprehensive view on their lives in the continent. My favorite part is the organization of each facet by area of the continent, combating a common view of Africa as almost a single state. This will ensure the perspectives and cultures of Africa’s diverse populations are better represented and more easily disseminated. Given the revision’s quality, critiques revolve mostly around small details, such as writing. Passive language is observed throughout the article. I recommend reviewing sentences, checking for too many prepositions, “to be” verbs, and other indicators of passive language. This will improve the overall presentation of ideas, creating an even more concise article. I also suggest seeking out any language that may improve the article’s neutrality. In the last sentence of Workforce participation, “in fact” may signal to some a bias for the data presented within the sentence. All in all, great contribution with adherence to Wikipedia’s policies and guidelines, only needing small tweaks for further improvement.-Ddegenhart (talk) 07:56, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
