In regards to the history section, I think it is important that Title IX is mentioned and that you give a larger background of what it has done for women in sports. It is mentioned briefly in the Women in sports today section but I don't think it is talked about enough. Title IX changed the entire way women's athletics were seen. It is a huge reason why there are women sports today in colleges and high schools and why women's sports have been able to thrive. The problem is with ambiguity. Women's sports would indicate that only women play or the sport has a least a characteristic that makes women play it exclusivley. Oppose. WP:COMMONNAME. The suggested new name is neither concise nor easily recognizable nor natural nor in common use. Google hits definitely supports the current title as is. Support The suggested name is a good way to neutrally address topics that are far from settled (as evidenced by continuous Title IX court cases and legislative updates). Planned Edits to Women's Sports Article[edit]

Updated sections of women's sports article[edit]

I have updated the "Battle for Equality" section with more information for the Norway and Sweden subsections (Ada Hegerberg's protest and the #ForTheFuture movement, respectively) and entirely new subsections about Jamaica (soccer and netball) and South Africa (soccer). I would love to update this section with more information from more countries than are currently listed (particularly from Global South countries if possible), as well as with more sports, so if anyone has any thoughts about relevant information that I should include, please let me know!

I also plan to continue working on this section, with information regarding Irish rugby and the #Legacy movement, as well as American ice hockey and the #DreamGapTour and the boycott of the NWHL. Expanding the geographic scope of the article to include China[edit]

Hello Wikipedia!

I will attempt to increase the geographic scope of this article, specifically to include the People's Republic of China and the Republic of China(Taiwan). This area of the world is extremely populous and has a long history of women's sports, and has a high participation rate of women. Resultantly, I seek to provide an important storyline which is currently absent. This will include analysis of the Chinese Olympic industry, as well as analysis of the role of media, culture, and politics on women; focusing mainly on women in China and Taiwan. Further, I hope to analyze some of the ways in which women in sports are marginalized and underrepresented in these places. I will provide sources from a range of backgrounds and a variety of sports. The only difficulty is providing introspective sources from the People's Republic of China, as it is difficult for anything critical of the state-backed Olympic industry to permeate the intense censorship. Most sources will be from dissident emigrants or outside observers. For a complete list of sources I intend to integrate so far visit the sandbox accessible via my talk page. Hi Emily! I think you've done great work with this article! I especially like the addition of the sex-specific injuries and the professional leagues; the first one especially also introduced multiple viewpoints to the article. The addition of professional leagues was also a great demonstration of women's representation in professional sports. In terms of changes, I would consider re-organizing the US: Title IX section for straighter flow and less redundancy, as there are existing subsections that also cover it. Adding Germany as a Section (Wiki 4)[edit]

Hello Wikipedia community. I am excited to share my plans with you on how I will successfully contribute to the information already presented on the topic of women’s sports. The first thing I intend to do is create a new heading under the “History” section where I will title it “Germany”. As seen in the current article already, a summary of women’s sports in multiple countries has already been summarized. Due to the fact that Germany is and was one of the leading countries in Central Europe, I believe it is important to understand the role that women had in sports in Germany. The information I will use to support my points comes from chapter 2 of The Masculinized Female Athlete by Katie Sutton. One of the main focuses of this secondary source is the topic of women’s sports in Germany and the threat that women made to male dominance. I want to add information suggesting that female athletic dominance grew during the Weimar period in Germany and include some of the factors that contributed in this new era. Few opportunities made it possible for women to join sports programs and push boundaries within society. These included the enrollment of women in German universities, the rise in female employment, as well as involvement in war industries. All of these are examples of economic changes due to World War 1 (Sutton, pg.67). I want to make the point that women began to emphasize their sexuality and this drew attention towards growing athleticism, (Sutton, pg.67). This allowed women to grow and gain more publicity and attention to their place in sports. Altogether, I will be adding about 200-300 words on this topic. Female genital protector[edit]

Recently had to remove content claiming the female "jillstrap" or pelvic protectir was designed by a USA Miami man named Ronald Paramore in the United States. This information was originally from the wiki article "Jockstrap".

There is evidence, though currently not accessible online, that female pelvic protectors were available for female broomball and ice hockey players, as well as ringette players, in Canada by the late 1980's. Until this is sorted out, I think editors should refrain from giving credit to Paramore since this doesn't appear to be the case. CheckersBoard (talk) 00:41, 14 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
