Filmography[edit]

He is probably best known for his "english" movie scores such as Dracula, The Ninth Gate or Portrait of a Lady, so those shouldn't be left out, but he also wrote a large number of music for Polish films and TV serials. I'm not exactly an expert on those so I can't really say which ones to include.

Furthermore, it would be interesting to include some of his better known symphonic works as well, besides a "selected filmography". I think there's quite a few websites dedicated to his work. Should be no problem to find a good overview. --Steerpike 14:31, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever state the list is currently, I think is good. I came to this article trying to find a fairly comprehensive list of his contributions and was happy with what I saw. I feel that the article needs is more biographical data on the man. MCalamari 22:17, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Weird Writing Style[edit]

Pronunciation of his name[edit]

Please clarify conflicting sources[edit]

Could some expert please clarify the following conflict between sources:

The University of Southern California tells us here: As a student he studied piano with Władysława Markiewiczówna and composition with Bolesław Szabelski at the State Higher School of Music in Katowice.

The Adam Mickiewicz Institute tells us here: Kilar attended the State College of Music (currently the Music Academy) in Katowice, where he studied piano performance and composition under Bolesław Woytowicz.

As only the latter citation was offered, I amended the text to fit the citation, thus removing the then unsourced claim that he also studied under Władysława Markiewiczówna, as also claimed wthout source in her biographical article. I note that Bolesław Szabelski's biographical article says he taught at Katowice until 1939, and gives a source for this (Kilar graduated from Katowice in 1955, 16 years after 1939), which might arguably suggest the University of Southern California may be wrong.

Any justification for calling Kilar American?[edit]

This article is currently placed in a number of categories such as Category:American classical composers and Category:American classical pianists, but I can't see anything in the article that supports his classification as American.
