References[edit]

Please cite your sources. I'm trying to figure out how to repair this page back to a state where the few references that are cited are cited correctly without undoing other useful edits. I suppose I'm going to revert back to the 23:56, 18 November 2006 verion by Mike Dillon and then try to recreate the sections and categories that were added later by others. An article to use as source[edit]

THE NORTH COAST: A Kayak Adventure, GOING HOME AGAIN, San Francisco Chronicle, Paul McHugh, September 20, 2005

Thank you for the suggestion, the article has been cited. Ellin Beltz (talk) 19:04, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction and settlement by Europeans[edit]

There seems to be some disagreement about the phrasing of the sentence discussing how the influx of Europeans affected the Wiyot. Perhaps we should discuss it here. I am planning to put back in the reference to the Spanish American war, and try to make the point of view more neutral. Vampyrecat (talk) 02:43, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

December 2013[edit]

I made several edits to the page today, including:

  • checking all the citations and providing information and citation templates where needed.
  • removed "southwesternmost" as the Wiyot geographical limit of Algic languages, because as eastern Algics (e.g. Potawatomi) occurred much further south than Wiyots.
  • added Josiah Gregg information & citation.
  • added "citation needed" to statement... "The resolution of the Mexican-American War..."
  • fixed date & added citation for establishment of Fort Humboldt, previous date was uncited and in error.
  • fixed statement which implied Gunther bought the entire island which is not supported in the citation.
  • fixed two sentences beginning with "The day before the massacre, 25 February,..." as the prior edit had lost the citation due to editing.
  • removed a "see also" which was adequately linked without the separate line at the end of the paragraph.
  • removed wikilink and individual names due to lack of citations and notability issues.

There is still much to be done to this article (see comments above), but progress is being made. Ellin Beltz (talk) 19:04, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

lots of writeup, needs editing/formatting, map etc --Skookum1 (11 May 06)
  • Still needs formatting and copyediting, etc. There are also some dubious (uncited) claims in the article as well --Miskwito 23:58, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To add to article[edit]

To add to this article: the recent repatriation of Wiyot remains. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/jan/28/wiyot-tribe-remains-returned-california-ucb 173.88.246.138 (talk) 19:48, 29 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
