Can wear cap in Memorial Hall?[edit]

It was old plebe lore that the only people who could weat their caps in the US Naval Academy Memorial Hall were Rear Admirals Sims and Evans. Anyone know why? Is this worth mentioning here? Student7 (talk) 18:45, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Of course. Admirals Sims and Evans each earned the honor of having their busts placed in Mem Hall. The sculptors chose to make their busts, as we say in the Navy, covered. Memorial Hall is dedicated to the alumni who died in the service of the country. Plebes are learned the importance of honoring them by removing their cover on entering, and noting the official 'exception' which emphasizes the act. GaryBats (talk) 19:11, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Commemorative Stamp[edit]

The United States Postal Service issued a commemorative stamp pane on February 4, 2010, honoring distinguished sailors. In addition to Admiral Sims, the other persons on the stamp pane were Admiral Arleigh Burke, Lieutenant Commander John McCloy, and Officer’s Cook Third Class Doris Miller.
