Dorothy Paley[edit]

I rewrote the section on Dorothy Paley and in doing so, removed much information that I feel is irrelevent to William Paley. If you don't agree, I won't fight it, but I feel that that information would more properly belong in an article about Dorothy Paley, not William Paley, as it has nothing to do with his life. Middle Name[edit]

According to David Halberstam in his book The Powers That Be, Paley added the S. initial to his name when he was 12. And that is does not stand for anything. Over the years people assume it was Samuel, for his father, but it is not. This same exact situation, and the same initial, took place with George S. Kaufman. Paley's mother[edit]

She is strangely absent from the early life section. I found this in the 1910 census (taken on 16 April 1910):

through my subscription at Ancestry.com.

Samuel (22) and Goldia Paley (18) are also shown, living in Chicago, in the 1900 census. They've been married 2 years and have no children. There's a difference in Samuel's immigration year from the 1910 census. Here Samuel says he immigrated in 1888, has been in the States 12 years, and is naturalized. Obviously that could be checked through naturalization records and ships' passenger records. There is no surviving 1890 census record to check.

I think it's fairly clear that Goldia (Goldie) is William's mother. I just wonder why she is omitted from his "Early Life"? Filé gumbo (talk) 23:25, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I concur. Goldie Payley lived on Henry Avenue, across from the then Textile College and was a painter. The home is now an arts Center.he elder of two children, Paley grew up in a traditional American household. His father, Samuel Paley, was a Ukrainian Jewish immigrant who founded a successful cigar business, while his mother, Goldie, raised him and his younger sister. William S. Incorrect Leon Levy Link[edit]

The link to Leon Levy (who the article says married Paley’s sister Blanche) is to the wrong Leon Levy. The linked Leon Levy is a famous hedge fund investor who was 2 years old in 1927.
