Untitled[edit]
The fourth Earl of Ilchester was Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs from 1835 to 1840 in Melbourne's Whig government, but was not an MP (and did not succeed as Earl until 1858). I was under the impression that is has never been possible for a person who is not a member of parliament to hold ministerial office in the UK. Perhaps someone can shed some light on this? Geology[edit]
His merits in geology are missing (first geological chart of Russia 1822), see for example the russian wikipedia--Claude J (talk) 11:52, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
