Representative peer[edit]

According to the thepeerage.com Clermont was elected an Irish representative peer in 1821. However, he is not included in Leigh Rayment's list of Irish representative peers. Tryde (talk) 18:35, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

thepeerage.com cites The Complete Peerage, vol. III, page 277. However if one checks the source itself, it is merely stated that Clermont's claim to vote at the election of representative peers on 2 April 1821 was admitted, not that he was himself elected. I don't know why his right to vote as a peer should have been contentious, as his succession doesn't seem to have been disputed. He lost his seat in the Commons in 1806 on succeeding his uncle to the title (as an Irish peer he would have been ineligible to represent an Irish constituency) - see his entry in The History of Parliament.
