Sorry, not QUITE convinced on the importance of this one[edit]

User:Dr._Blofeld, the creator, has argued on Talk:Black Givenchy dress of Audrey Hepburn that this is a "High" and with misgivings I'm agreeing with that, but I have to say I have seen really very, very little specific coverage on this dress. I have a feeling that a lot of people confuse this dress with that of the white (with black details) floral Givenchy dress Hepburn rather more famously wears in Sabrina, (indeed, some of the references here in the beginning were actually about that dress). Looking at the TIME source - the photos are arranged chronologically, not from high to low, so they are not saying it is "the greatest dress of all time" - they have just listed the dresses in chronological order and Hepburn's dress just happened to be the earliest one they had a picture of, hence it appeared first. I do wonder how factually reliable the copy is, given that it says the dress is strapless - which it obviously isn't from the pictures, and some of the other captions are questionable too, but that's original research. Oscar fashions are notable, but I actually think this article (with much respect to Blofeld) makes a great deal of fuss about a nice dress that I've never seen cited as a trend-setter or stylistic influence or even held up in fashion histories as an example of perfect 1950s style - even though, and this is my original research/personal opinion, it IS the epitome of the period, but I'm not really seeing it received much publicity at the time, nor that it caught the attention of fashion historians (in the way that the black dress has) or become a popular cite for 1950s fashion, so I think its importance is exaggerated. This dress hasn't had as much attention as the black one, maybe mid importance for this? I really don't mind what you rate it as to be honest Mabalu, it's low importance in terms of priority!♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:18, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
